Anyone ever added more battery to their Prius II? I hit a couple of mountain passes on the way to work that drop the battery to around 20% so MG2 won't help anymore. I understand that the battery capacity is adequate on flat land, but in the Rockies it just doesn't cut it.
there are plenty of people that like myself have added extra batteries to their prius, however it's not a cheap or simple exercise. simply adding a second battery in parallel to the original HV battery will not work. Jason
My extra batteries are in the form of a PHEV conversion. There is a thread here on pc about it. Cost was north of $4,000 but it's working fantastically well. Jason.
And someone here in the UK tried to add an additional HV battery to their Prius. It worked for a couple weeks before going bang! It can be done but you have to be VERY careful and know what you're doing. There are conversions available but whether they are financially viable is debatable.
True. If you are doing the phev install in order to save money, unless you have free electricity from solar or wind, you are probably not going to break even. On the other hand, if it's about reducing your carbon footprint or not sending money for oil offshore, that's an entirely different thing. Jason.
Yep. As I said earlier in this thread. Adding a second HV battery in parallel is not really do-able. Not without a load of re programming of the ecu anyway. The stock HV ecu wouldn't be able to make use of any second battery. On the other hand, a full blown phev conversion like I and others have done is completely doable but it's not cheap or simple. Jason.
