Excited about new Prius, few questions

I went from an '08 to a '16 and am really happy I did.

the 1 is not usually for sale, fleet only. it likely does not have the lithium battery does it have cc?

 

Toyota USA introduced (or reintroduced) level 1 a while back, not just as a special fleet purchase, but generally available.

There's a page in the fourth gen main forum listing the various levels, it should list the differences, between level "1" and the others. I'd link it, but I'm having a hard time with the website right now, can't see to go to the front page.

Anyway, my take, just after quickly looking at Toyota USA brochure: level 1 loses the spare and the rear wiper? And maybe more, not sure. For me, no spare would be no sale.

Your call regarding "protection package and/or "preferred accessory package", research them, check the cost.

Still, I hate to see someone go through the purchase process, and then find out there's no spare.

 

I'm with you - only car I bought without a spare, I bought the optional spare (FORD Fiesta) - then 3 months later, discover it was then included as standard.

 

Yeah sort of tossup in terminology due to the unusual history of the level one vehicles in Gen 3 and Gen 4. When the Gen 3 was rolled out in model year 2010 there were four trim levels, II, III, IV and V. Roman numerals were used that model year only, prior to the introduction of the Prius v (lowercase) wagon in model year 2011. Prius I was planned for release later in the 2010 model year, however Toyota later decided that Prius I would only be available for fleet.

Gen 4 rolled out in model year 2016 with six trim levels, Two, Two Eco, Three, Three Touring, Four and Four Touring. Then halfway through model year 2017 Prius One was added to the lineup, around the same time that BSM, RCTA, ICS, IPA were added at no charge to trim levels Two or above (except Eco) if they didn't have it already.

 

IMHO, considering the reliability of Toyota in general and Prius in particular, the protection package (I am assuming by this you are talking about some kind of extended warranty beyond what is given as default by Toyota) is probably not worth the price.

 

Protection package here in the UK is mudflaps and side trims (door) and maybe a boot lip cover IIRC

 

Adaptive cruise control, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, lane keeping assist - essential, IMO. Rear wiper, not so much - doesn't do anything useful for my 2018. Spare- I've used one maybe 4 times since 1960.

I think it'll fit, BUT: the OD will be less, possibly enough to throw a code. Also, that spare is 10 years old: verify the rim fits, but put on a fresh tire, the 4th gen spec?

 

Yes, you get the stainless steel bumper protection trim and I also got the rubber boot (trunk) liner which I have left in the car since new.

Just had a look now and you don't get the boot liner anymore, its a £60 extra, but the price is only £250 for the pack whereas I paid £300, so a £10 increase in price.

 

Ya, I was thinking the Gen II used 14" wheels .....(we had one, but don't remember for sure)

 

16" here in the UK on Gen 2
