I once was able to hold mine above 65 for about 3 days (180 miles and after that I ended up doing whatever I could to maintain above 60. But the challenge makes driving quite fun.

My average mpg has always been killed by short trips. When I lived in Fargo, my commute was under 4 miles in 10 minutes, each way. Here in Spokane, I got good mph going downtown (a 25-minute drive, more or less) but there were always those short trips to the grocery store on days I didn't go any farther. Real mpg-killers.

When I got the Xebra I figured my mpg would go way up because I'd never make the short trips in the Prius. But what I didn't take into account was that I'd also never make the long in-town trips where the Prius really shines. I only drive it on the freeway now, maybe 3 days a month. So my mpg will never be stellar.

The positive side to all this is that while my average mpg is poor (for a Prius) my total gasoline consumption has always been low, because I just don't drive many miles. I've just hit 20,000 miles, and I've had the car since January of 2004.

 

The wet cold weather this weekend isn't going to help either...

Yep. Driving from one end of Spokane and back is where I get my best mileage.

You need to waste gas by taking your Prius on cross town trips, just so you can improve its mileage.

Ever since the good weather arrived, I've been getting some really good tanks... the last ones have been below 4.0l/100km tanks. The 2007 Prius is definitely wanting to sing below 4.0l/100km. It is a pity though, because now it became a company vehicle and other people get to drive it too, otherwise the mileage would be even better that what I've been getting.

That is extremely impressive considering all the crazy hills we have all over the place. I've gotten 3.5L/100km before, but that was only over 30km from Aldergrove to the Port Mann Bridge. Props to you, sir!

Darn right it is flat.

But unlike for our friends in Texas and Florida, the Prius takes a serious FE dive in the winter - it is amazing how lowsy the FE becomes when the ICE runs all the time, heh? On the bright side of it, just looking at the signature mileage graphs makes you want to laugh at the average roller coasters.

So... now it's time to "eat my cake" and enjoy it while it lasts.

This was my best tank yet. I filled up on Saturday with 10.3 Gallons. I have a 30 mile commute to work.

I P&G on my way to work and I drive the highway home about 65mph with the AC on which takes my average down a little but I always make it up the next day on the way to work.

I was trying for 800 miles to this tank but I was 20 miles into the flashing gas gauge and I had too much driving to do and I didn't want to chance it.

Maybe Next week when I get back for my trip to Texas I will be able to get my 800 mile tank
