    So Toyota will not be selling gas only vehicles after 2020?

    Awesome news. If the Germans and the Americans don't wake up they will be reduced to dwarfs.

    On another note, what would the market position of the Prius be if the Corolla was offered as a $16k hybrid?

    If I read the article correctly, Toyota will market the hybrid system as a powertrain option. However, there will also be hybrid specific vehicle, like the Prius, as well.

    Corolla is smaller (although the new one coming out in Sept will be like a 90s Camry). Don't forget, the Prius will be the showcase for hybrid technology.

    There was a lot of ignorant stuff written about hybrids. There still are a lot of mis-conceptions out there. Geez

    If I recall, Toyota said it wanted to offer a hybrid version of all of it's models by 2010. I interpret that to mean that gas only would still be offered. So this article would imply that gas and hybrid versions would be available from approximately 2010 to 2020. Whether they offer gas models after 2020 remains to be seen. It wasn't clear in the article. Even if Toyota doesn't make it's own self-imposed 2010 deadline. It's still more than any other company is doing. And it's also farsighted. I don't hear any other company offering an insight into the direction their company is going for the next 10-20 years.

    hmm, thanks. That's probably it though IMO, still seems a bit risky to have HSD-only vehicles (esp. since at this point in time, you can't have a manual and we know how stubborn manual drivers can be, with all due respect).
