EV Mode Cumulative Miles 2018 Prius Prime Plugin

    Is there any way to tell the total cumulative miles driven in the EV only mode or total cumulative miles driven using the gasoline engine. Since I only have 6000 miles total on the odometer and I have not bought any gasoline since October 2019 I am just curious. Since this over teched vehicle keeps track of everything else I would think knowing this would be beneficial not only to the owner but to Toyota. But then it has GPS but can't automatically change the dashboard clock to Daylight savings time. It also has a hundred or so lights, numbers, maps two speedometers etc blinking and beeping but won't display album art from your MP3 files because it does not want to distract you. (It will display the art but you have to engage the parking brake so you have to stop to view it,). Don't get me wrong, I love my Prius and seldom have a daily commute of more than 15 or 20 miles and it is the perfect car for my needs. I just sometimes wonder how the engineers decide on what we need and what we don't.

    There is no easy way to tell the cumulative miles on EV mode, but using the EV driving ratio number displayed on the Drive Monitor on ODO if you did not accidentally or intentionally reset it corresponding to the odometer, you can estimate total miles driven without the engine being on. This includes the EV drive portion under HV mode.

    Complex design projects like automobiles are usually organized into project teams responsible for various components. Their designs are usually kept consistent through some kind of general specification and "rule book." Some teams will design elements based upon past experience or using assemblies and/or designs already in use on other vehicles made by the company. Other times, there are no detailed specifications and the team has to make it's best guess and hope the boss approves. Some elements may be considered potential legal risks and the lawyers and risk managers have their say in trying to protect the company from litigation.

    It is very, very difficult to achieve consistency throughout every subsystem design. This is especially true with a highly innovative product like the Prius Prime which requires all kinds of novel elements -- many of which must be designed with consideration that they will be adapted for use in future company products.

    I agree that there are some bizarre inconsistencies and annoyances. But, I still find it amazing that so many elements of the design seem so well thought out. Now if I can just find the third-level sub-menu optional setting to stop that damned beeping.

    this formula should get close. (tot mi / 50) - (tot mi / actual mpg) X 50. Assuming 50mpg in hybrid mode.

    So for me it is (23,000 /50 =460) - (23000/124 =185) = 275 x50 =13,750 miles driven on electricity.

    in words that is (galons if all hybrid) - (actual gallons) x hybrid mpg

    Well, the problem with your formula is that it is not easy to know the actual hybrid mpg. 50mpg maybe close to EPA, but many people are doing much better than that.

    So using the EPA combined 54 MPG. My number would be 12,984 miles on electricity.
    Like I said it would be close. 5.6% difference using EPA.
    This is an interesting exercise but the numbers that matter are 124MPG and 185 gallons used in 23,000 miles.
