Hi All, I am a newbie and will probably ask all the newbie questions have done some searches but have not yet seen this listed... If I had an EV mod done , would you get regen if you take your foot of the throttle pedal when going down a hill? or even brake regen? also How many green bars should a fully charged traction pack show, I have seen different sites some say 8 some say 7 I know there must be a set number there??? I have a brand spankin new 1 mile well now 25 mile 07 prius HE package dont need the nav. JBL etc... but I have built an electric vw fox car can be seen at this link or web address..http://www.austinev.org/evalbum/896 and with a diode and rehostat installed I can have regen on my fully electric vehicle. Also why is the ev mode limited to 1.5 miles? on the prius ev mod? I have used it more without the kit ( no kit yet) seems like the lighter the touch on throttle the better. it just seems as a waist of more money for a mile and a half. thanks and sorry for the long post will shorten next time..
I added an EV switch to my 2006 prius yesterday. That is a great question. I just assumed that the regen would still work the same in EV mode, but I do not know. I will be watching for an answer to that question also. I went to your EV site, that is some interesting stuff.
Everything works the same with the EV mode except you can accelerate a little faster and harder on just electric.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(regenme @ Mar 10 2007, 08:55 PM) </div> EV mods don't have any effect on regen There are a total of 8 bars that can be displayed. Not sure what you mean here exactly. The battery is fairly small and isn't designed for prolonged Electric only range. The range is no shorter or longer with the EV mod than it is without it. 1.5 miles is in the neighborhood of the maximal pure electric range you'll get from a stop to when the ICE kicks in. You can certainly glide further than that once up to speed and if there's a bit of a downhill section to coast.
Your watchword with EV mod should be "easy does it". Use it sparingly in situations where running the ICE makes no sense. Moving the park a short distance in a parking lot, from the garage to the street and situations like that. Excessive use will actually hurt your mileage because you'll more than likely have to burn a lot of gas to recharge it. Don't get me wrong, the EV mod is great, it's cool, and it can save you a wee amount of gas here and there, but you have to use it judiciously or you'll actually waste more gas than you're saving.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(regenme @ Mar 10 2007, 07:55 PM) </div> As others have mentioned, the ev-mode button has no effect on regen. EV-Mode is about twice as powerful as the "natural" Stealth mode, and you can prevent the ICE from doing it's warm up cycle with it. It's also the "gateway feature" that leads us into doing PHEV conversions with the Prius. Here's my page at the EAA-PHEV website from which you can get to the various pages about the Prius, PHEV Prius conversions, the various people doing kits or conversions, and some general purpose discussion of the underlying principals we exploit to get it done: eaa-phev:User:Rjf The stock battery has about 1kWh of total energy of which you can use about half, the 8 bars on the dash represent a real SOC range of 40% to 80%, it's worth about 1 to 3 miles depending on your driving. Generally you can't go past 1 mile unless you start fully charged, use the EV-mode to reach the lower limit of 45% SOC (where EV-Mode exits) and drive very easy on an ideal "course". My Converted Prius does about 10 miles or so in EV-Mode with more or less "normal" driving over "regular" terrain below 34mph. The EV-Mode button is pretty simple, and I would recommend that you install the CAN-View if you're interested in getting more technical feedback from your Prius. whether or not you use the CAN-View for a PHEV conversion as I and others have it's simply a great feedback and diagnostics interface... http://www.eaa-phev.org/wiki/CAN-View Nice VW conversion you have there... [Thanks all for the info, glad you liked the vw conversion it has been a lot of fun and still needs a few things, but all in good time. I think I will do the coastal ev mod. and the reverse beeb mod can't stand it. also would like to say I have learned a lot on this site in a very short time.. thanks again. oh about the soc meter,, 8 bars went driving last night put on 110 miles only gets 7 bars of green how or when does it ever go to 8 bars?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(regenme @ Mar 11 2007, 08:17 AM) </div> Just find a hill with a long slope (1-2 miles) and you'll see it charge up all the way. I usually see the battery charge to full every day because of all the small hills in my area. (Maybe you should count yourself lucky you don't have to drive over hills, I'm sure your Prius is fine.)
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(tripp @ Mar 10 2007, 08:21 PM) </div> Thanks for the advice. I will of course play with it for a while, then I will take your advice.
You can actually drive an unlimited distance in EV mode if you have a long enough downhill and traffic conditions permit your driving under 34 mph (the speed at which EV mode kicks out by order of the computer program.) A mile and a half is a good approximation of how far a full battery will get you on level ground, depending on how many energy-wasting stops and starts you have. The Prius handles stops and starts more efficiently than any other car, but they still waste some energy.
