The European 2023 Corolla family includes the Hatchback, Sedan, and Touring Sports (aka Estate in some markets). The Corolla Touring Sports model is the one we can't have in North America. The News Release and Specs do not include the Corolla Cross which is regarded as a SUV.

    The New Corolla

Couple of key points from the Specs and Release:
    • The 2023 Corolla family in Europe is not available with AWD - FWD only
    • They have a choice between the 1.8L or 2.0L engine and both are Hybrid only
    • Both the 1.8L and 2.0L hybrid powertrains get the same gas mileage - 4.4L/100km (53.5mpg) WLTP combined
    • WLTP Combined range would equate to 977km (607 miles) on 43L (11.4 gallons)
    • 2.0L (98 g/km) puts out 2 grams less of CO2 than the 1.8L (100 g/km) and both meet Euro6 standards
    • 2.0L engine puts out 112kW (150 hp @6000 rpm) and 190 Nm (140 lb-ft @5200 rpm)
    • 1.8L engine puts out 72kW (@5200 rpm) or 97 hp and 142 Nm (105 lb-ft @3600 rpm)
    • MG2 on the 2.0L puts out 83 kW (111 hp), 206 Nm (152 lb-ft) and on the 1.8L puts out 70 kW (94 hp), 185 Nm (137 lb-ft)
    • Total system output for the 1.8L is 103 kW (138 hp) and for the 2.0L is 144 kW (193 hp)
    • 0 - 100km/h (62 mph) takes 9.1s for the 1.8L and 7.4s for the 2.0L
So the powertrain specs pretty much mirror the North American Prius FWD (not Prius Prime) specs, except for the fuel efficiency.

For those who are curious about what the difference is between the Hatchback and Touring Sports here is an excellent video. In it you'll note the Touring Sports model has a gargantuan trunk (boot) space. I could be wrong, but I swear you can put in a full sheet of plywood from his measurements into the Touring Sports if you fold down the rear seats.

would love to see it built with a Ranchero / El Camino type bed, rather than just buy any ol' full size trunk. With SUV's & pickups being the lion's share of USA buyers, we'd likely get a bunch of sales from many that just wanted to buy an eco pickup that can handle a fridge in the back ... plywood, or maybe pull a small trailer holding dirt bikes, camping gear, snow mobiles ec.
    ;)

Ha ha is that a dare? I had an El Camino in the late 70s to early 80s and used the heck out of it mostly as a truck. Toyota wants to bring back the Stout for a small pickup, but then they'll get "requirements creep" and they'll end up with a truck that is like my "mid size" Tacoma which is bigger than any other Toyota vehicle except another Truck. I don't know, can TNGA handle a unibody TNGA-C or K size truck?
