The owner of my apartment said that I can plug-in my newly acquired Prius (2014 PiP w/53K miles) to the outlet beside my spot and just add to my rent however much I think it will use per month. He threw out $20 as a ballpark, but I really want to be fair and pay what it costs, since it is pretty great of him to let me do this. Does anyone have a rough estimate of how much electricity it would cost to charge my battery full once per day in SoCal (92109)? I am getting a Kill-A-Watt to track it myself, but I imagine it will take a month before I get a better idea.
I have PRIME, so my battery is a bit bigger than your PiP, I think about twice bigger IIRC? If you know the actual electricity rate you are paying now, you don't need a month to get the answer. Whatever the rate $/kWh x 3.3 kWh (assuming half of my PRIME full charge) will give you the cost to fully charge yours. If you do this every day, multiply this amount by 30 days. At my local rate $.20/kWh, that would be $.66/day or $19.8/30days. Your electricity rate may vary by time of day, so check that too.
The prius plug in 2014 takes about of 2.5 Kwh of energy, thats from no ev available to fully charged, multiple 2.5 x electricity rate, for example mine being charge once a day x 31 days x the cost of each kwh (2.5 × 31 × 0.073 = $ 5.65)
