My 2006 Prius makes this noise - like a growning sound for about 5 seconds - when I shutdown the engine. Always happens when I am NOT at the dealership. Generally happens when the engine is hot. Can anyone give me a clue what this might be? Thanks....Temaku
The engine coolant heat recovery system pump will typically run upon startup, as well as shutdown. The pump's function is to move hot engine coolant between the engine and a storage canister located in the front left tire well, to speed up engine warmup. This is normal behavior.
