I have a 2010 prius. 230k or so and it has rod knock. Misfire on 1 and 4. I replaced the spark plugs, the coilpacks, I noticed on cylinder 1 has alot of oil sludge. I pulled the engine today and need to swap a new engine. These engines are going for 1200 plus even with 200K miles. I can get the 2012 engine for $500. Are these the same engine blocks? I can swap over all the parts from the other engine.
I also hear engine blocks from 2010-2017 are all the same. If you swap everything from the old engine to one of these it will work. Will this work? so basically a 2014 prius engine block and head are the same....
The hatchbacks from 2016-up are gen 4 and require some mods. The 2015 blocks have improve pistons and rings, the heart of your issue, and would be the easiest "better" engine. If the donor engine was from a Prius v wagon, the 2015 improved gen 3 was used in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
A gen 4 block would work too I think. BTW, assuming you haven't I would also clean the Exhaust Gas Recirculation circuit, AND the intake manifold (paying special attention to the EGR passages). And consider adding an oil catch can to the Positive Crankcase Ventilation circuit. More info in the "bad flywheel" link in my signature.
I just completed my 2nd gen 4 Engine to a gen3 body. Not too complicated. What year engine did you go with? The coil pack electrical connectors must all 4 be pointing towards the firewall to show it is the gen 4 engine. I have found the the 2zr will have both head types. As Mendal stated, clean egr cooler and get an oil catch can installed. Let us know if you need help.

ooof, my reading comprehension just got whipped by your comment ! at first I thought you said you swapped a 2nd gen engine with 4 option package into a 3rd gen body. I need more coffee !
