Gatineau, Quebec - The governments of Canada and Quebec have announced that they have committed to contributing $16.5 million to innovative public transit initiatives as part of the Urban Transportation Showcase Program (UTSP) in Gatineau, Montreal and Quebec City.

Under the program, Old Quebec will put electric buses into service; a corridor capable of accommodating a combination of regular and hybrid diesel-electric buses will be added to Gatineau; and in Montreal, the Société de transport de Montréal will put hybrid buses into service.

In Gatineau and Montreal, the total cost of the projects is estimated at $19.7 million, while the Quebec City project is estimated at $12.2 million. The federal and provincial governments will provide funding, along with various transportation agencies.

Hopefully these three cities will have better luck that Elk Grove, CA did. Granted, Elk Groves hybrid buses worked once they stopped using them for express routes to downtown Sacramento. For local runs that stop every other block, they seem to work.

In my city, we have tons of experimental busses running around. I've seen FC, biodiesel, some other I couldn't tell.
