    Maybe he wanted the 500+ mile getaway range before a fillup, leaving the police on the side of the road out of gas.

    Looks like his getaway MAP wasn't very good, so he got caught driving with the heavy LOaD. (this is getting more difficult)

    As long as no one was injured at the bank, and he obeyed traffic signals the police would not use spike sticks or shoot out the tires. They can very well have traveled out of state in one tank of fuel. FBI would probably take a few hours to respond. We all remember the slow OJ getaway.
