    Prius in Israel

I just came back from Israel (was gone for a month). I was (pleasantly) surprised to note lots of Prii on the road, many more than what I had expected. Even with some tax breaks the Prius isn't cheap in Israel.

Most new cars (70% of the market) are sold to leasing companies which then lease the cars through employers to employees (significant tax savings to all concerned). The Prius is not included in the most popular leasing group, which means that Prius owners actually buy the car and pay the ~$40,000 it costs.

You can imagine how annoying it was being stuck in traffic, driving a rental (Fiat Punto), standing next to a Prius...

One thing I noticed was how Prius drivers in Israel tend to drive it as if it were a regular car - going as fast as possible, staying on the left lane, etc. :)

I got used to a more "mellow" driving experience since I've had my Prius, and was rudely reminded several times that I wasn't in Canada any more...

Anyhow, it's good to be back home. Of course the weather is now much colder than it was when I left for Israel, which means I'm struggling to keep above 48MPG. I can only wonder what millage one can get in Israel.

    Oren,

Can you answer Burritos question? What does a liter of gas cost in Israel nowadays?

My cousin was just visiting, so I got the chance to ask. It is 6.00 NIS per liter which converts to approximately $6.00 per U.S. gallon.
