Dunlop Tires on your 2016 Prius?

My Three model came with these tires. I've only had the car for about 3 weeks now, so still a pretty small sample size, but I have nothing but good things to say. I'm coming from a gen 3 and noticed an improvement in both handling and road noise from the first test drive on. So far even with the temps here stuck in the 40s and lots of rain I've been getting about 58 mpg, an improvement of about 7mpg over my gen 3. The car is also much quieter than my gen 3 which I noticed the decreased road noise right away at the dealer and have had my wife comment on it as well. As far as handling there have already been instances where out of reflex with 7 years in a gen 3 i'm preparing for less than ideal handling and end up pleasantly surprised at how my 2016 handles. There was a mix of freezing rain and light snow here the other day and the car acquitted itself just fine - plenty of traction. Its certainly a smoother and more responsive ride, even dodging all the pot holes here. I'm not sure how much is attributable to the tires vs the new technology in the gen 4 overall though. Either way, I'm enjoying the new ride. Hope you are too.

 

No complaints about the Dunlops on my new Prius Two. Haven't looked up the specific tire to compare with respect to wear stats and rolling resistance, but overall I have found Dunlops to be good tires (from my racing days).

 

The look like they should be pretty noisy.

 

Are those the LRR tires that Toyota originally said was supposed to be on the 2-eco but we were surprised when the first ecos did not show up with the Dunlops as advertized?

I know that it is equipped with LRR tires of some sort. Lets summarize 15" tires:
Toyo Nanoenergy A29
Dunlop Enasave 01 A/S
Yokahama (most likely Avid Ascend model - Please confirm)
Bridgestone (most likely Ecopia EP422 - confirm pending)

I am wondering if Canadian models come with more winter friendly tires.
Also would be nice to know if anyone opt with winter tires - please advise.

 

Ecopia 422 plus? Where are they made? How many ribs in the tread? There are at least two variations of them in the aftermarket; one made in the US, the other in Mexico. There may be one variation made in Japan also.

 

I have the Ecopias on my 2017 Two. Is the manufacturing country imprinted on the tires? It is pretty messy out there after the storm last weekend, but I may be able to check my tires.

 

Country of origin should be on the sidewall. There's two (or 3?) configurations of the EP422+. Different number and spacing of ribs is the elephant in the room. There are other variables: treadware rating, and?

These factors are turning me off considering the tire for a replacement: too many unknowns.

 

Has it even been established that one version is really any better than the other?

 

Your availability in Canada is likely different than what we can get here in the US. It likely varies by region too.

 

TireRack (US site) makes a point of differentiating the EP422's, resorting to description of number of ribs, for example.

Me, I lose patience easily: if a tire manufacturer has different wear indexes, different tread pattern, and refers to them all by the same name, I'll look elsewhere.

 

The MIJ and Made in USA tires are fine. 422 Plus. Factory are MIJ and Walmart sells a MIUSA version in some sizes for aftermarket flat tire replacements in an emergency.

 

Someone here replacing all four got a couple of US and a couple of Mex. I forget which was which, anyway: a couple had 4 widely spaced rib pattern, and the other had the 5 ribs, more closely spaced. Tire place at first was saying it was not an issue, too.
