I was hoping the new technology helped not hurt. We have very bad traffic in Wash DC area, which seems to me almost 100% related to accidents clogging up traffic. If we could stop the rear end type collisions, maybe traffic improves? That's my hope. But I think they could also consider other ways to reduce accidents and possibly reduce the impact of accidents (like maybe not closing road for 6 hours for investigation).

 

Do you think that Telsa might get a flat tire in space?

 

I can see how that article makes sense, but my Gen 4 won't keep me safe from the cowboys around here.

I don't have BSM, so I've got to do the over the shoulder looks.

There are a bunch of unsupervised little kids that play in the parking lot where I live and too many scary people that drive right behind people when they back out of parking spots, so I don't depend on the backup camera.

LKA is on to nag me, and the city has Botts dots on all the roads, so there's hardly an excuse for me not to use the turn signal.

TSS-P is a tool. And not all problems are solved by it. Many times, accidents are caused by PEBSAW (problem exists between seat and wheel) errors.

Recently I video recorded as light rain, lane change event. It was a non-event because I was practicing previous driving behaviors. But what if I was training a 16 year old?

I would smash the fingers on anyone throwing dirt on these new technologies but I realize the risk.

I do not expect new technology to come perfect but to be perfectable. One step at a time and ‘lessons learned.’

You don't have to do the over the shoulder thing, you can use an add-on aspheric (curved) mirror, something like this. Having used whole mirror aspheric replacement mirrors on a prior car for 5 years, I never found a single downside and don't understand why car makers don't install them as standard or offer them as an option.

 

Automatic transmission made worse drivers, but we are still driving. So whatever.

 

I have a couple of similar mirrors to try, but I've been waiting for warmer weather and a chance to wash the interior glass.

Thank you for the link, I'll keep it for reference in case what I have doesn't work as well as I'd like.

I still think I'd look over my shoulder, just in case.

That's funny I put the Telsa comment in the wrong thread, and it almost worked here anyways...sorry for the diversion...now I got to put it where it belongs

 

They gave up on that after the nth officer getting hit.

 

Technology certainly can develope an intelligent lighting system, but that will never compensate for the unintelligent driver in the other vehicle.

 

I recall seeing on here an international Toyota, perhaps Prius, that had the right side mirror split so the lower half was designed like that.

Many times a solution to an issue gets designated as required without allowing for a differing solution to get approved as equivalent. We have the curved right side mirror but that is not likely the optimal solution.

 

It will never compensate for the unintelligent driver in that vehicle either. Unintelligent drivers are too resourceful.

Why is it that every new technology is a double edge sword. Take the cell phone for example, they have saved many lives and have taken many.
