Driver killed in smash (click here for original article)

    Aug 5 2005

A man died and two others were seriously injured in a three-car smash in Warwickshire.

The 29-year-old victim was driving a Vauxhall Calibra which was in collision with a Vauxhall Zafira and a Toyota Prius on the A44 at Kitebrook, near Little Compton, at about 3.10pm yesterday.

Police said the dead man was from Shipston.

A 23-year-old man from Chipping Norton, who was a passenger in the Calibra, suffered serious injuries, as did the Zafira driver, a man from Buckinghamshire.

The driver of the Prius, a 63-year-old man from Moreton in the Marsh, was unhurt.

Anyone witnesses are asked to call PC Craig Rogers on 01926 410414.

Yes but what was the extent of the damage, was the Prius totalled or just scratched. To exclaim this is a good outcome without knowing the extent of the impact tells nothing.

Call Police Constable Craig Rogers at 01926 410414 for details. Don't forget to add the country code, 44, and drop the leading 0 from the phone number when you dial.

When I first read this I also felt assured over the Prius's safety engineering. But just as you say kirb, we have no idea from this article just how "involved" the Prius was versus the other cars.

But I'm going to stick with the "assured" feeling anyway.

Someone died here. There is a familly missing a loved one somewhere. No cause for "Hurray" and if I was the moderator here, I would remove this article.

This forum has just hit a low comparable to FOX News.

My heart felt sympathies to the family and friends of the killed driver.

Nowhere in there did I mentioned that I was snubbing or cursing the deceased driver. Nowhere in my message was I denouncing his actions or the fact that "hurray he's dead" as you seem to imply that I've said.

Also, to say that this forum is comparable to FOX is a generalisation, to say the least. Surely, what I say is NOT representative of what the other forum goers express but solely of my own.

I agree with Tideland. As time goes by, we hear about the real world experience of Prii involved in car crashes and it seems from the stories that the Prius has more protection than other cars.

Taking some assurance from that DOES NOT mean that we in any way take joy in the suffering of others.

But I do like the way people have used Faux News as a measure of something that deserves contempt. There are a lot of reality based people here.

I agree that this was a vey good article about the Prius. It did not need details. Whenever I hear a good thing about the Prius, I like it.

Even if you had the details about damage, that would not answer whether the driver of the Prius was able to dodge the crash due to superior handling, etc. Don't over-analyze posts.

There have been numerous postings of accidents involving Prius and other vehicles, in this forum, and I don't believe anyone ever made fun of or degraded the unfortunate victims of those accidents.
This thread, like the others, is just another posting of positive information regarding the safety of the Prius and I for one welcome hearing about survivability in our cars.
