So I am wrapping up the first tank of gas on my pip. I am at 623 miles and down to the last bar on the gas gauge. I have driven maybe 10 or 12 miles on that last bar but with a couple of those being in EV.

Obviously I don't want to out of fuel, but I'd like to see how many miles I can get.. and when I should be worried. I know there's no "low fuel" light but this last bar blinks or something right?

So what's the safe distance on that last bar?

You have two gallons left from when the last bar starts blinking.

It's not called the guess gauge for nothing. Fill it up when it start to blink.

If you know it was a real fill up at the start and not a "dealer fill up" AND you started a new tripometer at the start of the tank...then all you have to do is multiply whatever MPG you are getting times 9.

    It was a dealer fillup.
Will fill it up at flashing.
Time to do some math! Lol

:)This screen is under information on NAV, fuel consumption. Not sure how accurate it is, but better than guess work. Nothing worse than running out of gas, other than electric juice on a EV. Can't run down the street for a five gallon can of "electric charge".

Is that the same "cruising range" that shows if you cycle the Trip on the dashboard display? Because if so, mine was showing 45 miles when I was down to one bar, but filling to full I find I had 10 litres in the tank, so just under three US gallons, so a lot more range than 45 miles.

I had been on one bar for a while but it wasn't yet blinking - does that mean the range shown is to the "blink" point?

That's what it seems cause my range is showing like 40 miles

There is more solid info on some of the gauges. On the screen that shows the EV vs HV ratio: there are two trips there TRIP 1 and TRIP 2. Keep TRIP 1 at lifetime. Reset TRIP 2 on fillup. Then note that on right side is a number listing the number of gallons used. Note that it rounds DOWN. If it is says 4, it could be 4.9. But other than that I have found it to be a accurate. So, since tank is 10.6, so long as this number is 9 you should be okay, as you would have a solid 20+ miles left. That might be leaving it close though. When the bar blinks you do have 2 gals. left, or 100 miles.

I love this screen. For on the lifetime trip one sees the HV miles and total gas used. So dividing gives you an estimate of your overall mpg when using the gas mode -- of course, this depends on the HV vs EV mile count, which is quirky in some ways. Anyway, for me at 1600 HV miles driven I am getting 51 mpg in that mode.

I think I got about that on my first tank too. Now I always aim for 1000 mile tanks.

1000 miles that's insane. What's your average speed on freeway and streets? Do you use free charging stations along your daily commute or paid stations?

Don't know about Cheselyn, but now I've seen myself how much fuel is left at 1 bar, I'm hoping to get 1000 out of my current tank. Working in litres, it's a 45 litre tank and I got 825 miles out of 35 litres in the one "full to full" I have on Fuelly since i bought the car in late May. So I was still learning how to drive it economically, and I know I've got a long way to go, but 1000 miles is certainly within reach.

My daily commute is 25 miles, my EV is stubbornly stuck at 12 because I use it for 3-4 miles on roads where the speed limit is 50mph and the traffic is at least that. I normally end up with a couple of miles left, unless I hit traffic on the 12 miles or so of 70mph trunk road (I'm in the UK, it's the A3, technically it's not a motorway but for that stretch it effectively is). On that part I normally get up to 70 or a bit over going down the hills, and slow to 65 (or 60 if I can tuck in behind a slow lorry for justification) as I go up them. I try not to let the mpg drop below 50 for too long; true pulse and glide is a bit tricky on a major road like that in commuting times. The remainder is 40 mph or 30 mph roads, gentle ups and downs, where I'm trying to "drive like there's an egg between your foot and the pedals". I rarely fill the brake section of the HSI on the left (so don't waste energy that can be regenerated) and virtually never get into the PWR section on the right.

I can recharge at both ends (there's a statement to make....), plus I'll probably use a charge worth at the weekend with no petrol. There are also a couple of trips from the suburbs, where I work, into Central London during a day in that last month, where in theory I can do the whole lot on EV with a charge and a parking space in the centre of town, but then there have also been a couple of times when I've thought I was charged and found I wasn't.

Not trying to brag, because I know there are a lot of people who will beat that hollow, but just trying to explain why the 1000 mile tank is perfectly attainable. My only problem is that I've got a long trip coming up in 4 weeks time, not sure if I'll hit the 1000 miles before then...

Just about all my tanks have been 1000 miles or so.....but this summer i've hit some higher miles on a tankful...im currently coming up on 1300 miles and I still have 3 blocks left on gauge. Have not been to the gas station for over 6 weeks now.

I absolutely love this car. My dodge ram never gets used unless i must move ladders or plywood, i can fit alot of tools into my PiP with seats down. Since the car was new my back seat has never been up. lol

I live in Southern California. Avoid freeways like the plague. Prius just gets better mileage on surface streets in HV mode.
If I do drive on the freeway I stay in the right lanes at 65-70 mph. Let the crazies fight it out in the left lanes at 85-100 mph.

Commute 2 days a week 60 miles RT to teach. Charge at both ends. Local trips in my city are almost always 100% EV. I upgraded my EVSE to a 240, so it's easier to come home and sit down for 30 minutes to an hour before getting out on the road.

I'm also a freelancer, so when I have client meetings (such as today) I will try to park at a garage that has charging bays. They seem to be much more convenient than last year. Most charging bays are paid (Blink) and the garage charges to park as well. Typically parking costs about $2-3 and charging $2.

Some garages charge about $1.25 every 15 minutes / 30 minutes and I do not park there. Tend to stick with $1-$1.50 an hour.

Astolat -- sounds as though we have similar situations. I am in the suburbs of Los Angeles (Long Beach). Unfortunately, this city is planned around the freeway, but it is possible to drive into town on city streets. I too try to drive like there is an egg between my foot and the pedal when conditions allow. I always have the speed demons flying past me. That said, I follow the posted speed limit and thus the higher mileage on the vehicle.

I am usually forced to move the HSI into the PWR zone when leaving red lights as most ppl will tailgate me if I do not.
