    Cats are better for apartment and condo dwellers I suppose, but I think that some of the people in some of those "orange states" may actually have cats as well.

    Since there are about 15,000,000 more cats than dogs in the USA, it is difficult to understand the map. Maybe households instead of total numbers?

    No, there's a big cat fence around the two purple areas.

    It's like the Rabbit-proof fence (Rabbit-proof fence - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). But for cats.
