If you leave your 2023 prius in Park mode and then exit with the remote and close the door, will the prius automatically lock itself? Also, will it automatically power off the engine and car?

If it did, I'd hope you could turn it off. I don't mind the car going to park, shutting off, but locking itself: not so much.

That's one of the nice things about modding to get the auto-folding side mirrors. They only fold when the doors lock. So if you see them fold, you know for certain that the car is shut off and the doors are locked.

That's a start. I'd rather you could turn the function fully off, which then kinda begs the question...

The only time I'll (manually) fold in our mirrors is on the car deck of our ferries, when it's really narrow, and people need to squeeze by. Say once or twice a year.

A serious problem with locking the car after the fob is 'removed', is that the car doesn't really know if the fob has been removed, or is still in the car but with a dead battery. For people who leave the fob in the car when parked -- yes, there are valid circumstances for this -- it could be bad news if they get locked out of the car because the fob battery died.

Many of us also have safe parking places where we leave the car unlocked without the fob inside. It would be annoying to have to go get the fob to unlock it every time we want to add or remove contents.

Yeah i tend to not be paranoid in my own suburban neighbirhoood but i often drive into brooklyn or nyc and leave my ipad and camera in the car when parked in random space on tbe street. I wouldnt want to forget to lock it and have it unlocked for a day there

Even in my own suburban neighborhood, anything left outside for more than a couple daylight hours is locked. Only something in the garage is left unlocked. But out on the family farm, nothing is ever locked or even keys removed. The risk of theft there is lower than the risk of losing all vehicle keys in a house fire, causing loss of transportation in a deep rural area.

I can't imagine leaving an ipad and camera in a car parked on an urban or suburban street. Too much broken window glass along our bicycle routes.

When my sister lived in Spanish Harlem a few decades ago, she just left the car unlocked. Easier than putting glass in all the time.

It doesn't lock automatically, but the app will nag you if you're away from the car and it's unlocked. Or heavens forfend you opened the back door an uneven number of times and thinks you left something back there. That's one subscription I don't intend to renew when it expires.

That’s a new one to me: sort of “fend off in advance”. Interesting word.

Slightly OT - My Venza displays a message that the car will shut off after one hour if I open the door while still in READY. I see this when I stop to get out to pick up my mail. I guess if it doesn't see the fob back in the car after an hour it will shut down. I haven't (and will not) try to see if this is true.

Update - The car will shut down if left in PARK for one hour. Some Prius campers have noted this in other threads.

And here I thought they meant forbid.

That could be an issue for those wanting to use the car as a generator.

They did, sort of. It was a new word to me too, so I looked it up. It originally was another way of saying forbid(which is why 'heaven forfend' is still in use in certain areas instead of 'heaven forbid'), but the word is still in limited use today with the shifted meaning of: 'to defend' or 'to protect'.

We all learn a new thing everyday. ;)

As I understand it, there's also a way (covered in the owners' manual) to say "no, please don't shut down after an hour this time".

This came up in a search, 2020 prius automatically shuts off in ready mode after 1 hour | PriusChat

Sounds like this shut off is for those that were forgetting to turn off the hybrid. I don't think the OP had an hour delay in mind for the question.
