Hello, My 2002 Prius, with 105,000 miles on it, displayed the PS/Battery/red car with exclamation point icons yesterday. The tech at the local dealership said that the P3000 code registered with the a 123 INF. All of which translates, he says, to a bad HV battery in need of replacement. He may well be right, but second options are good. Are there any other problems this code and INF could signal, like a faulty sensor or something a little less expensive? The car is in good shape – I was certainly hoping for more than 105,0000 miles out of it, especially after the 2004 recall when they were supposed to have replaced the battery. Anyone have any experience with Generation I HV battery replacement issues? Thanks!
P3000 - HV Battery Malfunction123 Input of abnormal signal from battery ECU (HV Battery System Malfunction) This I copied from Graham Davies' miniscanner manual. It does not exactly say you need a new one. It could mean that the voltage-sense wires are looking at some electrolyte corrosion. In an ideal world, somebody would de-install your HV battery and diagnose it more deeply. Then you would know if to toss it or to clean it up. Can you provide any more detail about what was done in 2004? Let's say that a number of the HV battery cells have pooped. Then your choices are new from Toyota about $2500, A rebuilt battery pack for less, or a salvaged orignal HV from a (lucky if it's good) 2002 or 2003 Prius starting at about $500. With more info about how you plan to use the car in the near future, and your budget, we can explore the options further. Good luck (i know how little that must mean to you)
