I read here somewhere about the 2020 Prius engine ....at least some of them...having an issue burning oil and so life of engine is shortened. I got the car at 140K mi. Its now at 168K miles. Almost all of the miles are on highway at 65-70 mph. (have a long work commute) What I understand is that on the dipstick indication, from the full dot to the low dot is 1.5 liters. {I don't like to let oil level all the way down to the low dot, so I cant verify that this is correct.) I use Mobil 1 0w-20. Have been tracking mileage since oil change, and the car is burning 1 liter in 6500 miles. (I usually just do the calculation when its midway between the dots as it is now) At 155K miles, I installed the BG triple treatment....the 44K, the EPR thats suppose to "fix" the hybrid oil burning issue, and the MOA. I believe this is all oil that the engine is burning as I never see even a a drop on carport floor. So is this is good oil consumption, or not? Also when should I reinstall another BG triple-treatment? Too pricey to install with every oil change.

A lot of miles for a 2020 Prius.

Yes you have the oil burning issue. Glad to hear that some of 2020 so not all will burn any oil, therefore the engine will never need to be replaced.

Disclaimer- this reply may not apply in all situations.

Did you mean 2012? Or 2010?
I just added 1/2 quart at 5100 miles. 65mph and less 90% highway.

    No you didn't.
You need to correct that model year typo......so that the discussion can start over.

Note: any engine with that kind of mileage and ONLY uses a liter of oil in 6.500 miles is NOT a problem. That is more like normal wear.
Two suggestions: Plan your oil changes for every 6500 miles and you won't have to add any between.
Consider using a heavier weight oil.....like a 10W40 "High Mileage" synthetic.

And the overall life of the engine isn't really shortened......IF you are willing to keep dumping oil into the ones with gunked up rings.

You mention a 2020 model, you post in the third generation forum (2010-2015 model years), and you list a 2009 as your vehicle.

    Who's on first?

oh yea! major typo there! My older Prius was a 2009. It was replaced with a 2010 Gen III. sorry for the confusion.
