    As Toyota:
    - keep asking (in North America) for oil changes every 8,000 km; and
    - in the US at least, require synthetic oil (Canadian manual only asks for ILSAC multigrade engine oil, reference page 552),
my intent is to do it myself to avoid unnecessary costs for something that is quite simple (at least during the warm season!).

    Two questions arise though:

    1. Warranty affected if DIY? From readings here, I clearly understand that in the US, Toyota will have to respect its warranty even if you do your own oil changes (keeping bills, dated, with odometer noted is recommended). Is this the same in Canada? I want to confirm this officially. In the owner's manual, an explanation on how to add oil is there but it is silent on how to change the oil. Is this an indication that it could be an issue in regard to the warranty or simply a way for Toyota to lighten the manual and gently “encourage” you to pay their dealer to do it?...

    2. DIY reset of the oil change system? If DIY my oil change, the manual explains the procedure to reset the oil change system (page 420) but states that it applies to "U.S.A. only". Why is that so? Does this procedure works on a Canadian Prius? I don't want to buy a floor jack & all just to see myself unable to reset the computer after the first oil change… and pay the dealer to do it for me…

I’ve searched oil change related posts but was unable to find information specific to Canada and/or 3rd generation Prius.

I can't answer no. 1 (you'll have to ask Toyota directly)

    2. That's because we don't have a MAIN'T REQ'D light so you don't need to reset anything.
