I see a lot on the EGR service. I watched a YouTube video on the changeout of the intake manifold and EGR/EGR cooler. It looks doable, but has anyone done it on their own? What parts do you need to have before starting? I presume having replacements of everything and just putting new parts in gets the car back on the road ASAP and lets you clean/refurbish the old at your leisure.

Please share your experiences and advice for a DIY project. If you had a shop do it, what did they do, how much did they charge, and how did you confirm the work was actually done?

Also, are there things one can do to clean/retard buildup while the car is in service to prevent issues with the EGR system that actually work?

    Thanks for all the help.

I’ve done two cleanings now. The second time I caved and replaced the pliable gaskets on the intake manifold, though the old ones still looked fine. Other’n that I just cleaned.

Starting the EGR cooler soaking with oxi-clean solution (or your choice) as early in the process as practical, is a good strategy. With 100k yours shouldn’t be too socked-in.
