I just bought a 2013 IV. I thought I would get better gas mileage. I'm getting about 400 miles to the tank. For some reason I expected to get 500-600 miles. I commute about 400 miles a week. What are you getting and how can I increase my mileage to tank
Different people have vastly different concepts of 'tank', depending on whether they refill with the gauge at 1/2 tank, 1/4 tank, 1 solid bar, the flashing bar, at 0 miles DTE (distance to empty), 100 miles past 0 DTE, or actually going until the engine quits from fuel starvation. (1) At what point are you refilling? (2) What MPG are you actually getting? This is the real measure of a Prius, not 'miles per (undefined) tank'.
Do not depend on Distance to Empty. It is generally notoriously inaccurate. The fuel gauge is much more dependable.
For what that really means, how much margin you really have, read just the first post of this overly long thread: [WARNING] Running out of gas (Gen III) | PriusChat There are very many things that could depress your MPG.
