It's part of the safety features, I believe it comes up based on if the car is swerving and is part of the Lane Departure Alert

Interesting that Toyota isn't the only manufacturer that has something like this. Here is a snippet on Nissan and how theirs works-
    Nissan:
What does the coffee cup dashboard warning light mean?
But how can a car tell if a driver is drowsy, you wonder? It all comes down to having the car get to know you. Using steering sensors and other monitors, the system attached to the new car gets to know you and your driving style. Then, if it detects events like steering corrections or other unusual steering-related oddities, the amber coffee cup warning light will illuminate along with a chime and message that asks “Take a break?” Unless the system is turned off manually, the warning light will remain illuminated until the car’s engine shuts off, at which point it resets. At this moment, the hope is that drowsy drivers will have found somewhere to stay for the night or get some rest.

Be glad it told you to do so before a crash.
Why should be creeped out by it?
And you should take that rest then, because your steering has shown you cannot really keep in lane and you are swerving and don't realize it. (As the Nissan explanation above says).

Thanks for the info. I was on the interstate I 95 and not swerving but changing lanes a lot keeping up with traffic, but a good safety feature

Actually a pretty cool safety aid.

I was looking at some new portable Navigation systems the other day and noticed many of them had a "Rest Stop" feature.
These were all just based on total time driving. But it was basically the same thing, under certain circumstances, mostly time driven, the system would suggest take a rest break.

Hard to argue against it, since fatigued driving can be so dangerous.

'changing lanes a lot to keep up with traffic' requires a different message.

If you use your blinker it will not offer the warning...

I tend to sit on the white line on the right, especially on two way roads, had to turn off the lane departure because it kept telling me to rest, has your car told you to put your hands back on the steering wheel yet?

I have had my land departure light / buzzer thing go off on my three w/ ATP more than a few times but it has never asked me if I needed to rest? Is that only on PCP models with ATP or touring models with PCP or is mine just not set up right?

I have a 3 with ATP only and it did aske me if I needed a rest. I don't know why though since I was driving refreshed in the morning after a good night's sleep and I don't think I had the lane change on. It was, however, after about two hours on the road, so maybe it's a timing thing?

The picture was a mistaken "Control V" instead of inserting quotes. Now my editor won't let me delete it.

What does the "take a rest" message look like? Maybe I'm just got used to ignoring the lane departure or just correcting myself after a quick glance and am not recognizing that it is indeed asking me if I need to rest. Will have to pay attention next time and see.

Is it every time or only after multiple lane departures??

I don't remember whether or not I had the Lane Departure on. I don't use it often.

It just said "would you like to take a rest?" But to be honest, it may have said "would you like to stop for coffee?" or something along those lines. It also sounded the tone I hear with other messages like "Use Brake." That's the message I get most. :)

I don't think I've ever seen that message??? Honestly. Maybe my settings are off? Or I'm not totally swervin like I'm a bottle of Jameson deep...?

Maggs... You say you have a three w/ATP and you have seen that message?

Doesn't really matter but I'm wondering what's up with my car..

    Thanks
