has anyone had this done? assuming it's a dealer only thing. I may or may not do it due to trying to cut down on EMF exposure (download ultimate emf to your phone and scan your surroundings for some interesting info)

Do you mean just disable the "Fob"? There's a thing in the owners manual that tells how to put the fob to sleep mode.

I suspect the answer is NO, as it's integrated into the entry, security and many functions of the car.

You probably need to buy an OLD car instead. Check with your dealer, though.

There is a way to disable the smart key system/push button start. It was explained to me by another member. Maybe he will see this thread. (depends on the year and model of your Prius.)

The gen2 had a switch, but turning off the SKS was to extend the 12v battery life while it was parked for a week and longer.

From the owner's manual (a wonderful invention):

If EMF is a concern, then the Prius was a bad choice.

I imagine your phone is a cellular phone You put that EMF to your head?
What about television. radio, & microwaves?
The electrical wires in your house have EMF too, whenever the power is turned on.

Do you heat with wood & light with candles??

Wouldn't a V8 be worse than a 4 cylinder - and the ICE on PRIUS only runs part of the time, so that would be a drop in EMF from the ICE? Maybe an old oily smoky diesel would be better.

I am assuming here that EMF is Electromotive Force, correct?
Anything electrical uses or produces EMF.
    Electromotive force - Wikipedia

EDIT: I just verified that EMF is not in the PriusChat Glossary

Oddly, when I bought my Prius my hair started getting much thinner.... Is it EMF? Or too many hotdogs.:)
Seriously though, I'm more concerned about brain cancer and that damn cell phone. That's why I very rarely even use it to make phone calls.

In this instance, EMF referred to electro magnetic field. There's not enough room here to explain it fully to you, so better get googling, y'all. :p

Too many TLAs (Three Letter Acronyms). Since Electromotive force produces Electromagnetic force, my observations still apply. When electrical current is flowing, magnetism is produced.

It almost sounds like the o/p is concerned about RF (radio frequency) waves, not EMF. In today's environment RF is everywhere except for a few "quiet zones" in the US where there are antennas listening for aliens.
Perhaps they need to move there first.

THIS is the answer to the original question.

Because it likely is impractical to disable it completely because the computer expects to SEE it there and functioning.

Maybe the OP needs to get a horse.

google non-native EMF....or check out neurosurgeon jackkruse dot comm and the list goes on and on....and no, I'd never put a cell phone next to my head....luckily I rarely drive a car and stick to my motorcycle.

all the new cars with bluetooth, etc. and not great choices, but I have to pick my battles. I wonder why the emf reading is so high on the drivers side corner of the dash?
