This fellow has instructions on toggling the reverse safety beep on or off. I have not had a chance to try it...he has some very interesting techniques to hack into the Prius computer to get arcane data... Watch out...his modifications may void your warranty !!!! http://www.vassfamily.net/ToyotaPrius/TipsTricks.html # How do I turn off that annoying beeping in reverse? 1. Power on (not necessarily ready, IG-ON will do). 2. Set Trip/ODO to ODO 3. Power off. 4. Power on to ready (brake on). 5. Within 6 seconds, press and hold ODO for 10 seconds or more. 6. WHILE STILL HOLDING ODO *after* 10 seconds, Shift from P to R, then back to P. Now release ODO. 7. You'll see in the trip display "b on" or "b off". 8. Press ODO to toggle. 9. Now power off. (If you disconnect the 12v battery, you may lose this change.)
This is not a modification, it is a user accessible feature of the Prius. It's been known for a long time and is listed in our knowledge base. And there is no risk that it will void anything in the warranty.
I probably worded my statement poorly. The backup beep disabling method is indeed a feature. I was thinking that the technique of tapping into the Prius data flow systems with computers and electronic connectors as demonstated at the Vass family site would void your warranty. His page describing the techniques to hack into the dataflow systems: http://www.vassfamily.net/ToyotaPrius/CAN/cindex.html Thanks !
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(cawooddog\";p=\"43491)</div> Neither would that void anything. That data is free to access and does not modify the function of the vehicle in any way. In fact there is an ongoing project to develop a 'mini-scanner' for the prius that would feed out just that information. It should be ready in about 6-8 months I'd guess. Prob. cost around $200-300. Some Prius functions/features can be accessed/altered via a tool like that but none should affect warranty.
