1- Turn car on, cycle odo to read odo and not trip a or b 2- Turn car off 3- Turn car on, within 6 seconds press odo and HOLD it 4- While still holding odo shift into reverse 5- While still holding odo press park, odo will change to b-on 6- Press odo once, b-on will become b-off 7- Turn car off 8- Turn car on, wait for normal start up beeps to finish and shift silently into Reverse. I just did it and now can rest my ears when I back out of my 100 foot driveway. Buck
Ok....I'm going to rent a prius for a week the week after next to make sure that I'm going to be ok with the legroom for an extended period. It would be nice to be able to turn the beep off, but I suspect that the rental company would rather have it back on when I return it. So....how do you turn the dang thing back on? Jack
I doubt that the rental company would notice the lack of the beep, but just repeat the steps in the original post to re-enable it.
I did this exactly as written with no avail - tried multiple times.....any suggestions as to what i might be doing wrong?
The above was for a 2008 Prius. It's different for the earlier models. Look on this forum for other instructions I'm sure you'll find them. Buck P.S. It's important to keep pressure on the odo button throughout the process. If you let go at any time it will not work.
What I realized after a couple of failures is that the Park button has to be pushed after putting into reverse; then you get the b-off/b-on selection. It's exactly the same process for the 2006 and 2008, because I have one of each and did it successfully in both.
Any chance you know how to change the Odometer from Miles to Kilometers using similar method? I bought/imported 2008 Barcelona Red Touring from AZ to BC-Canada, but have only been able to change speedometer to KM's. NAV changes with set-up. Thanks Lloyd
Hey Lloyd, I think you may be able to find that in the manual. But you are right, when I went to Florida I changed the speedometer from Kilometers to Miles, but the odometer stayed in Kilometers even though the nav system switched. Buck
Are you guys going into accessory mode? Or actually pressing on the brakes and starting the engine/car? If you're actually pressing on the brakes, are you holding them throughout the process?
With your foot on the brake your car will not roll backwards while you are studying the dash. If you are in the garage it could be embarrassing and could cost you a garage door. Note that after step #5 you can release the ODO button to perform step #6. Buck
I don't really know what "package" I got. I just told the dealer I wanted it fully loaded. They sell things differently here in Canada. My signature wouldn't let me pick anything else that made sense. Buck
i just did this. it took me about 6 mins (with one false start before a successful run.) thank you very much for posting this info!
Edit: I have a 2008 Prius, and I couldn't get this to work w/out holding the ODO button down for 12 seconds (after starting) before I did anything else.
