The worse president in US history certainly fits into the below average category. The 'independents' were the swing vote this election, voting 60% democratic. They are of course a *very* heterogenous group, but I would say fiscal irresponsibility and the Iraq misadventure picked up their vote. If the shrub had done only one of the two, I doubt the democrats would have done anywhere near as well. The exit polls rated repub corruption high up on discontentment scale, but I don't buy it except as a concrete rationalization of a feeling that the repubs are screwing up big time. One just has to read our local rightards on PC, who are exposed to every detail of every corruption in this forum, to realize that sort of thing doesn't faze them.
