Hi there! Would anyone be able to help me decide between these two? I'm currently car-less and will have to return to work soon. LA gas prices are no joke, but only older Priuses are in my budget since the used car market is insane right now. Both in California. 2010 II - $8885 -odometer reads 237,000 but a 2015 engine was put in and the new engine has 48,700 miles on it -hybrid battery replaced 1 year ago -new tires -spent its first year in Maryland as a rental car, but other than that, owned by one owner in CA and well maintained. I'm thinking the only major thing left to go wrong with this one is transmission. I know it's rare, but since the car has been driver for over 200k miles, I'm guessing it's only a matter of time? 2013c I - $8600 -97,109 mi -as far as I know, nothing major has been replaced on it -2 owners, CA -would be crazy cheap for insurance! About to go check out the latter now. Is a PPI always recommended? And I'm assuming ideally from a Toyota dealership or specialist?
I might go with the 2010 from an engine miles standpoint and just because its a nicer car but these models also have expensive brake pump and master cylinder design flaws that cost over $2k to fix. The transaxle is not a concern. The 2015 engine still has a poor egr and intake manifold design which require expensive cleanouts if you are not an advanced diy'er. Finally most hv battery replacements are with used packs that don't get the nine to twelve year runtimes of the original new oem. If you buy this car verify through Toyota the hv battery was new. Because of those concerns I would go with the 2013 c. Much simpler 1.5L engine. I would have it checked in any case by a hybrid experienced shop.
agree, go with the 2010 if you can confirm the engine, and if the battery is oem toyota. a lot of scammers out there. that price seems awfully high, but cali i guess?
If you don't mind the size? The Priussy. (Prius C) More dependable. Half the miles on everything but the motor. Still under CARB warranty in the PRC for 2 more years. NOT a rental car per the OP. No Brainer!
I've read that there's a shortage of used cars everywhere right now so prices are inflated. Might be a great time to trade in or sell if one was thinking about it.
