Dealership + Warranty for CV Joint

    Hello!

    So I have a Prius 2017 at 48k miles. As a background, my left CV joint went out which the dealership fixed for me at 35k. However, my right side is making the same clicking noise just like the other side.

    I have taken the car in more than 3xs asking them to fix it. The dealership is giving me the run around so they don't have to fix my right side CV joint (under warranty). Instead, they were having a brake sale and the foreman automatically said it was the brakes without even looking at the tire. I made several requests that they look at the CV axle, but nowhere in the report did they write anything about it. I was also promised a video from the mechanic, which I have yet to receive.

    I went in after they said the issue was a rotor (they kept my car for 5 days) $500 fix. I asked if they test-drove it. They said, all fixed. However, after picking my car up, the clicking noise persists...So we told them to reopen the ticket. I brought my car home, as I need a new plan of action.

    I am really at a loss for what to do next, I have this overwhelming feeling it is definitely the CV joint, just like the other side (as they normally should be fixed together because if one goes out the other will too). It's acting the same, it sounds the same, however, it's like pulling teeth to get my dealership to listen to me or perform the work I am asking them to do. My car history shows that I have gone in for the same issue over and over again. I don't know if I need to create a ticket with the warranty or manufacturer company? How do I get the dealership to perform the work?

    When they repaired the first CV joint, did they have any explanation for why it may have failed so early in its life? Especially if now the 2nd one is failing, I would want to know the cause. This is not typically something that would need to be repaired until you have a couple of hundred thousand miles on these cars.

    Nope, in fact the first time, they never called me. I had to call them near end of day to ask what was going on. To which they said oh we fixed the cv joint, come get your car, no explanation at all.

    Have you talked to the dealership’s maintenance manager directly, and if so, have you tried taking to the General Manager? My experience has been pretty positive once these people get involved.

    Am I reading this right? They changed a brake rotor (or rotors) for $500? Or they changed the CV axle?

    You mention a right side repair, but the service note refers to the left side?

    I can't tell what you paid $500 for :unsure:

    I'm new to the thread, I was going to fix my comment above but I don't know how to edit it:
    The left side was fixed at 35k miles.
    The right side is now making the same sound (the side they seemingly refuse to even look at for me). They told me the passenger side rotor was the issue, that shimmy kit and fit kits would be fixed for $515, and since it's related to the brakes (it is not under warranty).
    ~PERFORMED FRONT BRAKE JOB AND REPLACED ALL BRAKE PAD HARDWARE AND SHIMS. < work order notes​

    Update 2/14: I did end up calling customer service for Toyota. He pulled up the work order. He told me that there were no notes about them even touching the rotor. I was also promised by the service tech that I would receive video footage (a multipoint inspection type kinda thing) of the work that was completed. The dealership called me back today, due to the customer rep making this a high priority, and the dealership guy told me that 'the original mechanic that was supposed to do the work was sick, thus no footage was taken' which I said why didn't the new mechanic create or write detailed notes. I even asked how much wear was on the brake pads! NO NOTES about this either. Also, there is no mention of the mechanic looking at my CV joint...When I went to pay and get the car I asked them to fix my notes to say 'customer believes its CV.'

    So really it leaves me wondering if they did anything and then charged me for no notes, no proof...they told me to come back in for another drive-along as the sound is still there.

    Ok so you went there and said "I've got a concern about the right-hand CV axle. Can you look at it?".

    But they replaced the front brakes instead of checking the CV axle, and when you checked further with Toyota customer service they had no record of the brakes being changed? Sounds super scammy...or maybe if we give the dealership the benefit of the doubt, they did a brake job on the wrong car?

    Ha ha you'll get the guy who drives his grandma to church on Sunday. I'll be surprised if they say they found any noise
