I am working on my folks 2003 gen 1 prius. Dealer told them inverter was bad so I bought a used one to replace it from junk yard. I was able to drive the car on purely gas mode prior to replacing inverter. I have now replaced the inverter and innitially was able to drive it on battery power, but no gas engine, it wont start. Now no movement at all. I have reset codes both with my obd2 scanner and by the touch screen diagnostic window. Am I missing something here as I can't get the warning orange triangle to go away or check engine light, and now gas engine. When I turn key, I hear clicking sound in rear of car. Also, I left doors open when working on car and drained little battery, I replaced it with a larger battery that I have put in a battery box. Not sure if that has something to do with this, but I really, really need help.
    Thanks

How much did you drive around in purely electric? I wonder if the HV battery has been drained. Even so, something may not have been connected correctly, which prevented ICE-on after the initial repair. It is going to be really hard to figure this out without being able to read the codes. If it was just a matter of clearing the codes, that would have happened when you swapped out the 12V batteries. If you can get your hands on a Graham miniscanner, perhaps from Bob Wilson over at myhybridcar.com, that could save you a trip or two to the dealer to get codes read etc.

    Chad,

You need access to a scan tool that will show you the state of charge on the batteries and read the codes/sub codes stored in the car.

The only one of these that I have substantial experience with is Toyota's Techstream. I know there are others that the priuschat community uses.

Without this ability its going to be difficult figure out what happened.

Where do I get the scanner from, does someone in the prius community rent them like the guys in the mercedes diesel community? What is a good scan tool to buy? I really need to get this car running. Is there a way to simply "jump" the electric motor to get the ice moving?

    1. Contact Bob Wilson who is a regular on the Yahoo Prius Technical Stuff forum.

    2. No, there is no simple way to get the ICE running if the hybrid system is not functioning.
