my sister has a 01 prius, it was perfect, no problems what so ever ( this was a new car, not salvaged ) and for 40,000 miles no problems at all. She brought it in for that battery sealing SSC thing, and when she got it back everything was A-ok, until she was driving home from work and the turtle came on ( she doesnt drive full throttle or anything like that ) she said that the car slowed down to 10 mph where it wouldnt go past it, she had to pull into a parking place at this time. At the same time the screen showed car with exclamation and MAIN +- in red, also another thing the BRAKE light ( yes, the red BRAKE for handbrakes ) was on. Suprisingly, she told me that when she went to dealer for the SSC they said how the "back brakes needed adjustment" so i said just leave it till I come to NJ because you hardly use back brakes anyway. Im for some reason seeing a connection between the BRAKE light and the service guys telling her that stuff. I desperately hope they arent messing up this car, purposely. What can I do, this car hasnt given us trouble until we brought it in? also turtle comes every drive cycle, and the car has no power to get up to speed

This sounds like a question for the experts... I'm not sure why they haven't chimed in yet. I think the brake light might come up for other issues, like battery. If the brakes are not releasing, the car will not coast and the wheels should get hot if you can go fast enough long enough. Unfortunately, the Prius is so complicated you might need the dealer to diagnose it. When they do, make sure you get the trouble codes and report them here, those ALWAYS get the experts attention. If you don't trust the first dealer, take it to a different one.

It's possible that the technician messed something up. The resealing job is time-consuming and tedious. Some techs do a sloppy job which causes more problems. It's also possible that you could have a separate problem. You need to start with the codes and sub-codes that are stored in memory. A service department, or an independent shop with a factory scanner, will have to pull those for you.

The previous reply made reference to "experts" on this forum. While there is some very good information to be found on common problems, I doubt that many of the folks who are willing to share their opinions have done any real diagnosis. Identifying a pattern failure is not diagnosis. Keep your eyes open. Good luck.
