Day 2127 in my Prius and No Sudden Unintended Acceleration

Evan, I have the same experience after 4 years and 119k miles later. No SUA whatsoever.

Even family members are getting worry. This is crazy!

 

Eff the media in the goat nice person. One of my co-workers looked frantic when I told them I was still driving my Prius. There was no use explaining things because she was caught up in the frenzy. Sigh. Despite all the abuse i dish out, my Prius is still running great at 147,000km.

 

It's only a matter of time. Eventually it will catch up with you.

Hey, I've had unintended acceleration. My foot twitched and the car "surged" forward. At least as much as a Prius can "surge".

 

Well Dr. Fusco you have me beat by a bit. I am currently at ~94,000 and I simply am amazed at how solid this vehicle is. All I've done is as follows:

-Oil/Filter every 5,000 with synthetic
-Air filter every 7,500-10,000 (you'd be surprised how much debris accumulates in city driving)
- Cabin air filter every two months or so (again, amazing how dirty that thing gets)
- All TSBs have been addressed (except ironically the accelerator pedal fix which I will do when I need to go to Toyota
- Transaxle fluid change @ ~65,000
- Tires when needed (currently running goodyear tripletreads)
- Wipers when needed (currently using Rain X bracketless type)

So.. here are a few questions which I hope you folks can help me with:

1- It says a tuneup is required at around 120k. Should I just go to Toyota and have them change the plugs? What else is involved?
2- Should I change the radiator coolant?
3- Should I change the brake fluid?
4- Should I change the inverter fluid?

That's about it. Any information you can provide would be most appreciated. I know there are tons of posts about maintenance but I'd like your input within this thread so I can gain a consensus as to what I should do. Thanks everyone!

 

same experience here and this makes me wonder; if there are a few cars with some type of issues, would it be a manufacturing defect or a design flaw?

 

There is no car with a defect or design flaw. That has not been proven. All are just speculation. Even Gilbert's hack works on non-Toyota and it is not a real-world scenario.

Toyota apology didn't work with American as intended. What is real is the FUD that is spread across due by mass media. Most people are starting to believe there is a problem because they've heard it on news over and over, day after day. This is human nature but realizing what is happening can avoid that brain wash.

Well, I've driven three different Pri since 2005 including crossing the continent 2 1/2 times ( the 1/2 is because my first 2008 was t-boned halfway across) and the only trouble we've had is getting the finger from Prius deprived folks.

There once was a time, maybe in a dream world, where the news media checked, re-checked and checked again their facts before they printed or delievered news. Today they take whatever video footage they can find and then editorialize it they see fit and then send it out for whomever is gullible enough to believe it to consume. The more that consume it, the more they are paid by the advertisers.

Toyota is a victim of the dog food that the media is feeding our society.

As for my Prius, it has never behaved in a way I found unexpected or unacceptable. In fact, it is the best vehicle I have ever owned. It drives today just as it did over 5 years ago when I drove it off the dealer's lot.

 

Hey did you hire out your transaxle change or do it yourself? I've called three local dealers in the Portland, Or region and all three refuse saying it's not necessary until 100K (which is documented). What blows my mind is that I'm a consumer asking for this and willing the pay and no one will do it. I thought dealerships need money but I guess not. They are more than happy to sell you an undercoat.

just a little frustrated. I see there are instructions to do this change but haven't gotten around to it.

 

Can you use the 'only in America' explanation? Being in Canada, you and she are outside the fence that bounds this insanity.
