I am always amazed at the techies who will actually do this to their brand new vehicle. I think the Prius qualifies as a "Toy" in more ways than one.

it's not our prius, Salsa- he works on them for a living :)

frank- dash rattle, it's one of the feed pipes for the heater core- it's bent and causes a rattle at a certain rpm range.

Oops! I should pay more attention to those signatures! But is he like some of those mechanics and prefers not to work on his own? One of my friends dated a couple of mechanics and never had her oil changed or anything like that. (get the minds out of the gutter!)

oh, he's ripped ours apart plenty

i try to keep him from playing with the car excessively- he gets to see prius guts every day anyway. but all maintenance on any of our cars has always been done by him and him only- neither of us trusts anyone else to fix our cars!

Yeah! That's what I was going to say. :D

So G, just how PIA is it to remove the dash? Is it airbag sensitive and not recommended for home?

the first time? real PIA. after that, not so bad. he says he could do it all again in a half hour if he needs to- he has a sinking feeling he is going to have to replace that heater core pipe, so he will be pulling it down even further.

i'll have to ask him about the airbag- i'd guess you don't want to mess with that top part of the dash without deactivating it but i'm not 100% sure.

oh yeah- another useless tidbit- the car will drive in that condition provided you plug in the "power" and "park" buttons. not that we recommend it

What was the cause of your "hybrid drive shutdown"?

And it happened to mine a month ago to replace the gauge mirror in the dash that had a defect in it.
