If your dashlight display doesn't turn on, but the car still drives, it's either a $150 fix or an $850 fix. The cheaper one is due to a dying 12v. battery, the outrageous one is a failed Combination Meter which Toyota was replacing for free until Nov 2015. To check if it's the battery, insert your key, press power without your foot on the brake. When the display comes on, hold down the display button and turn your lights on and off 3 times. A diagnostic screen pops up. Press Menu, then Display, then System Signal (or the one closest sounding). You will see your battery voltage. It should read 12.4 minimum. Based on my research, anything less means a dying battery. Then apply a load to the battery by pressing the Power button without foot on brake to go into aux mode and you will see the voltage in action. Again, if it starts falling below 12.4 volts, the battery needs to be replaced. There are videos on YouTube if you want to DIY. Now, pull out your key then re-insert it and start the car. Your dash lights should come back on. If they don't, open the trunk, get to the battery, remove the red cap, and pull out the white cable connector for 3 seconds, then reinsert it. Your dash-lights should come back on. This may be a way to deal with a failing combination meter until you can come up with the $850 to get it fixed. Again, check out the videos on YouTube for this fix. Hope this helps.

The "warranty enhancement" you refer to is actually still in effect for some. It's good for nine years from in-service date. Some '09 models are affected, so they'll be covered until 2018 at least. I got my '07 replaced last January.

Look on eBay and you'll see CM repair options for around $100, but you'll have to supply the labor. It's a several hour job the first time you do it, less than an hour the second time.

I've never heard of the CM problem being linked to a low 12V battery, but it could be. It's usually affected by cold temps.

Mine is an '06. My lights go out now and then too, but the weather doesn't seem to matter. At those times, the car won't shut down normally; I have to depress the brake and hold the start button down until I hear the fan stop. When it happens, it's like being in a time warp: no mph, no miles period. It didn't begin until after the cut-off date for the warranty, so the dealer would charge me about $1000 to fix it. I'm debating it. After all, it still drives reliably well. (Except now the air conditioning isn't working right. Sigh.)

PriusGuyfrom213: thank you for that. I just bought a new battery and after watching that video, I probably didn't need to. Oh well, I'm going to keep the battery anyway.

I don't know what a "hybrid mechanical pump" is.

    - There is a mechanical engine coolant pump which is turned by the serpentine drive belt.
    - There is an electric inverter coolant pump located by the driver's headlight assembly.

    What are you talking about?

Further, I don't understand your comment about checking 80% of the fuses and "most look good". If you are going to check the fuses, every one must be good, not just look good. Use an ohmmeter to verify continuity of each fuse. In particular, check the 10A GAUGE, 7.5A IGN, 15A AM2, and 15A DOME fuses.

If you really want to resolve this electrical problem, you need to substantially "improve your game", so to speak. Good luck.

I bought my '07 Prius brand new and I'm having the same problem with the dash lights not coming on. I see by reading this comment, that there was a warranty enhancement. I don't exactly what that means? My car didn't start doing this until around 2018. If there was a recall of any sort, I certainly never received one but I don't believe that's what the warranty thing is about. It sounds like if this had happened while the car was still under some kind of warranty period, it would've been covered but obviously, the car is going on 13 yrs old, way past any warranty period. Guess I'm screwed, huh? Other than the dash problem, the car is chuggin right along

I purchased my a 2007 Prius used. He's blue so I named him after a dog we use to have growing up, "Blueky". I've been having the same issue with the dashboard lights. I've replaced the 12v battery in the back and have reset the battery numerous times after watching YouTube "dashboard light resolution" videos. The trunk won't open when the dashboard lights aren't on so I have to open the back seat and remove the lock cover and tire hatch cover to get to the battery. I remove the red cover to the battery then the white clip plug in for a minimum of 30 sec plug it back in. Dashboard lights come on and if im lucky they'll stay on for a whopping 24hrs. My odometer hasn't moved from 245,999mi. Im thinking combination meter but would have to get my dad to do it.... is it easy or labor intensive? Any tips or ideas of where to go next would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

I fixed mine the other day and was amazed how fast and easy it was. replace the 100 cap with a 220. use the search function to find the how to. YouTube has a great video on removing it. Took about 30 minutes to remove the dash, 5 min to solder the cap in and 30 minutes to snap it back together. YouTube search cluster removal, and cluster repair.
