Hi. I'm thinking of getting a dash cam, but don't want to run a long cord along the windshield to plug in cigarette lighter under the dash.
My 2005 Prius comes with some fancy mirror has a connector with a couple wires plugged into it.
Has anyone successfully powered a 5-volt device like a dash cam from the windshield mirror plug?
I found youtubes describing which color wire to connect to +/-, but none of them are fora prius.
Maybe via a 12v to USB adapter that can be taped behind the mirror?
    Thanks

you should be able to tap into the dome light hot wire, but how much current does the dashcam draw?

I would think that if you switched to led bulbs (not the super bright bulbs) in the dome light, you could add the cam with no chance of popping the fuse. most likely you would be ok without using leds, but small t10 bulbs will draw less amps than incandescent bulbs.
