Auburn Hills, Michigan - DaimlerChrysler has announced that up to forty Dodge Sprinter Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) will be placed in operation with customers in California, Kansas City and New York as part of a worldwide test fleet program. The company says it is the only auto manufacturer offering plug-in hybrid technology in real-world tests.

The Sprinter PHEV has the ability to drive up to 32 km solely on electric power, using a dash-mounted switch that gives the operator the ability to manually switch between modes as needed, or automatically by the vehicle control system. Both five-cylinder diesel engines and V6 gasoline engines are being mated to the PHEV system.

?? The Sprinter is quite real, regardless of the date posted.

I wish them success. Hopefully, then Toyota will beat the competition with a better PHEV.

Is this for real? I mean, I trust Darrel if he says it's real.

But who matches a V6 with a PHEV?

The Sprinter is a large van. A V6 + PHEV would be a logical alternative to a large V8.

Ah, I should have done a Google search. Well now I feel like a fool. :( It did seem odd mating a plug-in hybrid, of all things, to a V-6. A regular hybrid I can understand... but I can see how this could be useful for small businesses, to do just what the name describes: sprinting around town.
