On page 592 of our owner's manual it talks about changing the reverse beeper to one beep and turning off the seat belt minder. So the wife and I took both our cars in to the dealers to have that done. My initial call to the maintenance dept yesterday yielded a reply that do to liability, the dealer could not turn off the reverse beeper, but after informing him that we had already had the wifes reverse beeper change 2 weeks earlier he said that if I talked to my salesperson, perhaps he could get that decision over ruled...(the truth is burried VERY deep at car dealerships). So I called and spoke to the sales floor manager that was in on both our purchases and he assured us that if the manual said it could be done, he would get it done. We took the cars in and ask that both the reverse beeper be set to one beep on my car and the seatbelt minder be turned off on both cars. The guy in maintanance wasen't sure 'state law' allowed it to be turned off, but said if the software would allow it, he would do it. So when we got the cars back, he told us that they could only turn off the drivers side seatbelt beeper and seemed as puzzled as I was as to why the driver's side but not the passenger side beeper.
Any insight on this would be appreciated.

    TH,

Interesting you should mention that about the seatbelt beepers. When I took delivery of my vehicle, the dealership had already made the requested changes for me. The passenger seatbelt beeper remained, but I didn't give it any thought given its infrequent use.

At my first visit, I mentioned to them the "all unlock on touching driver's door" wasn't activated. They agreed to make the change at no charge, as it was part of my original request. In doing so, all the other customisations I had requested reverted themselves back to their original settings.

So, I went back and mentioned this. Again, they made all the changes I'd originally requested. The next time I had someone unbuckled in the passenger front seat (shuttling someone to their car in our employee lot), I noticed the beeper didn't engage. Very odd and most welcome. :)

    Chris,
Thanks for your input. So in your case the dealer was able to turn off both of the front seat seatbelt minders?
As for the "all unlock on touching driver's door", I got clarification on how to do that in this thread. It can be switched from driver only to all doors or reversed by simply pressing and holding both the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously on the remote key while inside the car while the car is powered off.

Just before I took delivery on October 20, I gave instructions to the service mgr to silence a bunch of beeps (thanks to contributors here, I had the info I needed). They did that as part of dealer prep, but I got the impression that discussion of it involved dealer management. They missed the seatbelt beep--but since it only beeps on initial startup (and not when I remove the seatbelt as I am coming home to check for mail), it's not worth a separate dealer trip. Besides, buckling up before startup is just as convenient as while going down our little street or moving in a parking lot.

OTOH, when I was working on buying a car from Dianne Whitmire with Long Beach Toyota, she said the SoCal area management would not allow changes--why put it in the manual if some dealers have to take a CYA stance?

Thbjr, in Phoenix you are part of the same area as we are in NM, so there is no ukase from Rocky Mountain area management.

There is a single, mysterious beep that I hear a few seconds after starting out. Not even sure it recurs after parking in various places during the day.
