A friend pointed out (now I can't stop noticing it), that when I turn, or go over a speed bump, there's a noticeable creaking noise coming from the right rear area behind the window.

Is this something the dealer can fix? I got my Prius a couple of months ago, and got the extended warranty.

Have you confirmed that your rear seatbacks are properly latched?

Checked the seat, and the cargo cover off. Still creaks.

Yes, take it to the dealer- they should be happy to fix any rattles or creaking noises- mine did at 30,000 miles :)

Hey, not to being back an old/dead thread but i noticed yesterday after we had out first rain since i bought my Prius in March, that every time i go over a speed bump the front suspension makes a creaking sound.

The only other vehicle I heard this one was my 05 Tundra but that was because that truck had Nitrogen charged coilovers in front and they had lost pressure from constant high speed desert activity.

What could the reason that my front suspension is creaking after 12,500 miles?

My right side back does a knocking creaking type noise when going over bumps or when going through a dip when turning.

Did you ever get this fix?

    Thanks,

    Nick

Yea, my Prius does the same. It was fine over the summer. But now, it's creaking, and it comes especially from the right side, behind the seat. When I hold on to the seat, from preventing it to move, the creaking stops. So it leads me to believe that the creaking is coming from the seat shaking itself. It might be the cold weather. My Prius only has 7500 km on it.

I've had this creaking noise coming from the front end somewhere, especially going over speed bumps or turning left or right under braking,i've had the garage check it out but they can't identify what it is,
They've checked that everything is ok in the steering and suspension areas and until something "snaps, crackles or pops" i'm going to keep driving, might be something to do with the 206,000kms on the odo!!

    I
Check the bushings around the Anti-roll bar, or Sway Bar as others call it. Also check the bushings around the Tie Rods as well. Sometimes those bushings get old and crack. I had this happen on my Geo Metro, strange creaking noise, and when pulling into my driveway I would get this sort clunk. It would do it at no other time. I replaced the bushings and it was gone! 90% of the time spraying the suspension with white grease spray will do the trick. I have done for years on my Neon and Prius with excellent results. Both cars have suspension components that look completely new despite the harsh Canadian winters we get. Try it and let me know. It could very well be the cheapest fix you will ever make! HAHAHA!

I'm still having issues in relation to the above,i'm bringing it to the dealer tomorrow because i believe it to be getting worse,i've had my neighbour who's a mechanic to check the anti-roll bar and tie rod and he says everything is tight for a car with 215,000klm and that nothing he can see is about to fall off,he did mention though about the Shock Top but he said that the car would "wander" when driving if this was the problem area but i'm not experiencing that effect,
It's just a little annoying when driving is my living and i know it's not my hearing that getting better...well that's what my wife says...That's SELECTIVE deafness luv!!

Well i got my problem sorted, having had the anti-roll bar and tie-rod bushings changed the problem remained, today however i had the LH Top Shock replaced...hey presto, problem solved,
I originally noticed the problem at 180,000klm but it took until over 220,000klm to become a persistent noise especially when turning left.

    Peace at last!!

My 2008 Prius (36K) has the same problem. The summer is fine. I dropped the car off at a local Toyota dealer two days ago and still have not heard from them. I am call the dealer to see if they have found the source.

Yes some suspension lubrication goes a long way especially up north.
I regularly spray the suspension on all my cars for years and never have had a car that creaks. And nothing is rusted either. Thats would drive me nutty.

Just spray all the suspension components especially the control arm connections. Every bolt head. Every electrical connnector.

But white grease is silicon based. Your much better off with a petroleum based grease for suspension lubrication as it stays put alot longer in bushings and mechanical pivot points.

Use Silicon spray on the inner & outer CV joint boots.

I have been using this product for a long time and it does what it says its does. Stops corrosion. And it will stay on a suspension component for a long time too. Nothing rusted on my car's suspension. Every 10,000 miles or every oil change:

Blaster Corrosion Stop Protectant - PB Blaster

Sold exclusively at Home Depot. I've asked Lowes to carry it more than once but no joy yet.

I’m new here, and can’t figure out how to post a new thread? Help…

I have a 2014 Prius with 48K miles. Just made a long trip with a somewhat heavy load (heavy duffel bags). My car is creaking over speed bumps, as well as when I turn the wheel at slow speeds (parking in and out of a space). Creaking is coming from underneath the car. What could this be? Need to know what to ask a mechanic to check to fix it the first time. Thank you.

First, as your car is a Gen 3 Prius, you should start in the Gen 3 forums.

Go to the appropriate forum and click on the "Post New Thread" button in the top right corner.
