Hope they release some of these worldwide, and not just for China because they're insisting on more plug-ins.

we likely won't see any without higher gas prices or government incentives.

My guess is it has the primes battery pack on an easier test. Question? Why doesn't toyota make a plug-in in north america, but will in china?

Play to your regional/national markets/regulations/quotas and don’t crowd out other vehicle sales you already have established there.

Quite frankly I'm more interested in the BEV version of the C-HR. I know it will never happen here in the US, but I would be one of the first in line if it was!

I would be happy with the C-HR hybrid. It already accounts for 70% of sales in Europe and with gas prices currently rising , it would sell very well here. But of course it would cut into Prius sales.

As would I, still a curious issue as to why Toyota didn't see fit to bring it to the US.

Who knows maybe it will show up in the near future, I suspect it would cut into Prius C sales in much the same way the RAV 4 hybrid cut into the Prius V's sales.

Because it was originally intended to be a Scion and Scion does not do hybrid vehicles.

Then they decided to kill Scion off and, well, the car already had papers submitted for US inspection and to other regulatory bodies (e.g. EPA) so they simply rebadged it as a Toyota.

I knew it was originally supposed to be a Scion before they killed the brand, but hadn't considered the paperwork factor as a reason for only bringing the gas version here. It certainly makes sense short term, it will be interesting to see if the other C-HR versions make it to the US in future model years.

I'll take the PHEV Corolla or Levin or whatever as long as it plugs and seats 5. But they really don't need to bring any of those PHEVS here if only they'd offer a 5 seat Prime. A 5 seat Prime would beat those in every way.

Here in Finland C-HR sells quite well. It sure is cutting bigger Toyota sales than Yaris(prius C) here, size is not matching it at all. C-HR is about same as regular prius, higher of course.

    Timing.

That upcoming new location in Huntsville, AL may be to do exactly that. We know some of that production will be the next-gen Corolla.

    Patience.

It also helps that China is basically forcing them to develop plug-ins if they want to keep selling cars in that country.

    It is because of competition.

There are a bunch of local car makers trying to take the advantage of EV as it is hard for them to develop their own ICEs and transmissions. It is a good opportunity for them to catch the EV wave and Chinese government has incentive just like various rebates and tax credit in US.

Their EV/plugin technologies are still (way) behind Tesla/Toyota, but I guess no one can stop them to catch up.

Yes I would too. But the chances are slimmer than a 5 seat Prime.

Camry with a plug is very realistic. That is a sensible business step, but it will take awhile.

As for a 5-seat Prius Prime, that makes no sense in a market with growing vehicles. Just buy the larger Prius, a RAV4, or a Camry instead. You want to increase diversity, not reduce it.
