coolant tank

    What is the real deal with diagnosing the coolant tank The coolant heat storage tank in the left fender My tank looks great water comes in and out of it when it's off the car looks like it has a well tank t on it but it's not a t water goes in water comes out and a similar piping arrangement it looks like by looking at the plastic fitting on the bottom of the tank. Other than that all there is is a temperature sensor and the pump so when you get the coolant heat storage tank code it's not really telling you the tank is bad is it? It's either telling you you're not moving that warm water meaning the pump isn't pumping? Or the sensor is inaccurate and it's saying hot water is dwelling too long in the tank and not being moved out to the heater or some such kind of business? I have no leaks I have good heat I mean 700 to 1500 ft and warm air starting to come out of the vents in my car not hot but warm like water that's runs through a vessel around and exhaust pipe type of warm another 1500 ft and the water is even warmer or the heat is even warmer coming out of the vents seems like everything is working perfectly but every so often every few days whatever in the morning only generally when it's cold check engine light will come on I will have the coolant heat storage tank code I don't know what it is right off hand but it's very consistent every couple of days there's nothing leaking. No coolant missing excellent heat and air conditioning just the code pops up. What are we thinking I just replaced the sensor and the pump?

    What code(s) have you got, and what does the manual say about the detection conditions?

    I I want to say it's what 11:56 coolant heat storage tank if I'm not mistaken I'll have to go out and pull the code when the wife says it's on the display again she's just been clearing it she doesn't like to see the check engine light on it makes her nervous other than that on this car it's the only thing going on I'm assuming or guessing my four manual set hasn't arrived yet that either the pump is not coming on when commanded and moving this hot coolant to where it needs to go or the temperature sensor is incorrectly sensing the temperature or a combination of the two possibly? The heat storage tank looks like a big version of my well tank in my basement the valve on the bottom of it is similar it just doesn't have a long t sticking out of it but the plastics and the way it routes the water up into the tank is very similar The tank itself is beautiful it's aluminum it's not leaking doesn't have any holes in it nothing like that I can blow air in and out of it through its hoses same with water or coolant The temp sensor is there I don't know what the specifications are on it and the pump is there and all this is covered up by fender and fender liner but I don't know when the pump is supposed to come on and all of that. So I'm thinking it's the pump is not moving the water and so the heat rise in the tank must be more than it likes to see or something I have no idea. That's why I was asking here and looking through the post I see people replacing the tank but they don't know why they're replacing the tank can the tank internally be fubar. I mean unless there's a clog in it or something stopping or drastically reducing the water flow or a hole in it I wouldn't see what could go wrong with the tank I can see the temp sensor being bad and/or the pump not working those are the three pieces of the whole system I think?

    Isn't your wife's car a 2012 or some nonsense like that which would make it a Gen 3?

    No remember her Gen 3 2010 JBL solar roof car is basically got a blown engine head gasket finally let go it 336,000 this was the car that stayed on the road from the time she got it running door - Uber eats and all that nonsense I put her in the Gen 2 that I bought for $700 in Raleigh which is basically a touring edition with GPS and all of the silliness on it leather interior It's in really good shape drives like a dream and so that's what she's in now and that car had this coolant heat storage tank code since I've got it The pump is there the temp sensor is there the coolant tank gets warm it's getting warm water from the system going in it I don't know when the pump is supposed to run to take the water out of it to pump through the heater core or whatever it does I don't have my four manual or three manual generation 2 manual set here yet so I can sit down and peruse it when I get ready trying to do it online really sucks unless you have a big enough screen to put up four pages at once something like that it just kind of sucks but that's what she's driving now a generation too because no one has to worry really about those vehicles they're not going to explode or implode out on the road generally speaking they leave and they come back the coolant heat storage tank is nothing to really worry with it's more of a nuisance orange light It doesn't seem to really do anything and no one's really sure what they fixed when they fix it. I read stories where people are replacing the tank for what It's just a tank if it doesn't have a hole in it and it's not leaking water comes in water goes out I mean pretty simple nothing special about it then there's a temp sensor duh and the pump as far as I know I haven't heard the pump run so I'm thinking that's what's throwing the code the water's not being pumped quick enough in order to get through the system and make heat fast like it's supposed to or some such business. But the funny thing is I have heat 1500 ft out of the driveway to me that's pretty fast It's going to get better than that no kidding.
