Hi everyone, new to the forum so I hope I'm following the rules and such! So here's the deal, my friend's 2002 Prius has a really bad coolant leak. What happens is you'll add coolant, drive, then next thing you know over the next few hours the coolant will be completely drained from the reservoir. I tracked the leak to this part next to the left hand side of the radiator looking from the front of the car; I feel like I should know what it is but I'm at a loss as to what I'm looking at. I'm not sure if it's part of the radiator or not, I believe this is a separate part. For reference, this is happening on the passenger side of the car. I attached a picture of the part and I hope it helps, it's that black rubber piece. Any help or a point in the right direction would be great! also- the check engine light is on, no red triangle of death. it would probably be in our best interest to get the codes pulled, i know oriellys can do it, (i'm afraid to drive the car with the leak is the only problem)
That is one of the places where the radiator fits into the bottom of the radiator support, there should be one on the other side. Remove the radiator and you’ll see. The reservoir is probably cracked or something.
The rubber thing is an isolation mount, it keeps the radiator from rattling around. It's just a rubber bumper. Either the radiator itself is leaking, or one of the hoses connected on that side is leaking at the union. The leak is running down the outer body of the radiator and draining out through the mount hole because it is nearest & lowest.
Thanks to both of you! I had a feeling it was just part of the radiator. I'll work on it during the week and see how it comes along!
