I have a 2008 Prius. Long story short, it’s not drivable. The red triangle came on three different times and in each case the car shut down and needed to be towed. Reluctantly, I took it to Toyota dealer and they gave me a report totalling over $4500 which is ludicrous. So I’m going to order parts and do it myself. I’m going to start with two main issues on the report which are the coolant control valve and electric water pump. My questions are 1) When I look them up I get different parts. Anyone know where I can find the exact part numbers? 2) Is it hard for a DIYer to do? Thanks!

You can use the online parts catalog from Toyota dealers like camelback Toyota in Arizona. Just Google their shop. Put in your car's info. Shipping is free with $150 purchase.

Job is pretty easy if you drain the coolant or you can use hose clamps. Many videos on YouTube if you search

$4500 is crazy, they should run about $1000 for both at the dealer, or DIY for less than $200

Before you start, what are the other issues that raise the price up to 4500 dollars?

Thanks a lot for your help. The mechanic said I need an electric water pump. Is that the same as an inverter water pump?

yes, on the 2008, the engine water pump is belt driven

but open the inverter reservoir with the car on. if there is movement, it is fine. replacement isn't a bad idea if it is original, they do quit suddenly, and leave mostly stranded. it does sound like yours is dead though.
the control valve is less important and can be done at your leisure, especially in florida.

Thanks so much! I’ll order the part and let you know how it goes. Thanks again!
