Converting Prius to a FlexFuel hybrid.

I have used E85 for couple of years in many different cars. I have Converted them using eFlexFuel conversion kit. eFlexFuel is developed and manufactured in Finland and it has passed Finnish government laboratory tests and is legal to use. Now I am going to convert my ZVW30 Prius with it. The question is that where can I find Prius fuel line schematics? I need to find a good position for the ethanol sensor.

 

Well I have to register and it costs me money. If there is someone who has this information already it would be nice.

 

Natural gas convertion is more costly and in Finland you must pay special tax for gas and diesel cars...

 

Here is a Cold start video from my previous car. Citroen C5 V6. I have had 5 eFlexFuel Converted cars and all of them work really well when its cold.

 

I know this car. It was converted by reprogramming the ECU not using a conversion kit.
eFlexFuel concept is simple, yet complicated and clever. The kit is connected to the cars injectors and it has a ethanol sensor what is connected to the fuel line. The ethanol sensor reads the absolute amount of ethanol in your fuel so you can use regular gasoline and E85 and mix them as you want. The eFlexFuel unit keeps the injectors open longer based on the ethanol content in your fuel line. Basically it just compensates the smaller energy content of E85. This was the simple explanation that I could translate from Finnish to English =).

Nope. Chrysler, Chevrolet and Dodge importing to Europe ended many years ago because they did not sell them enough.

 

Now its done! My Prius is now FlexFuel Hybrid! Pictures taken during the installation and after installation. It takes a real Toyota guru to know where the eFlexFuel kit is located. =)

 

I will be updating my FlexFuel Hybrid journey briefly. I had almost full tank 95E10 but managed to put in 4-5 liters E85 and now the ethanol sensor indicates 15% ethanol content in my fuel tank. Tomorrow I have long journey so after that I will be filling up with E85 so we will see what the ethanol % will be after that =).

 

The idea is not to get the Same MPG but the idea is to get the same distance, but cheaper. Who cares, if you have poor MPG but if you can get 1000 Miles with less money isn't that the idea?

 

Yes. But if your plug-in conversion costs same amount of money that a used Prius costs. So would you invest 10K to a 10K car? It wont be 20K car if you are going to sell it =). But if you invest 300€ for 10K car you might get some benefit out of that and are able to get your money back by saving the money from cheaper fuel. And there is not so much use turning Prius to a plugin because the range is so poor, it is something like 20km! So would you pay 10k for 20 extra km?
