Component Front Speaker replacement?

    are twitters wired to head unit or crossovers for woofers/twitters in the doors?

    Single wire runs from the head unit to the door then goes to the woofer and splits in parallel to the tweeter. There's a built in high pass filter (capacitor) on the tweeter. No full on crossover.

    The dash is easier to mess with than the doors.

    Maybe but to replace speakers you have to do door regardless

    You'll probably either need to make adapters, or buy them. I got these when I wired up rear door speakers.

    I bought adapters and ended up just cutting the speaker out of the stock speaker assembly and using what remained as the adapter. It fit better than the adapter.

    That's what the dealership did when they installed new speakers in the front doors for me. I have a c1, so I had to wire the rears to put speakera in. Then I put a corolla touch screen radio in, an amp under the passenger seat, and a bazooka tube in the back.

    Since my front were done by the dealer I never had those panels off. So I didn't bother to soundproof the rears. At some point I want to soundproof the doors. I'm looking into techniques to paint interior panels so I'll see. If I decide to paint the panels I'll sound proof the doors while their off.

    Hope to see some updates on yours!

    We finished this afternoon. Was in the hurry since needed to leave by 3. Sorry didn't get to read this thread and didn't make pictures.

    If you are thinking about soundproofing go to youtube and search Peel and Seal soundproof there should be a couple videos at least. And there are hundreds of pics on Google images.

    Seal and Peal is $16.49 at Lowe's and Home Depot, basically the same thing as Fatmat and similar soundproofing products for fraction of the cost. To apply you need scissors, time and a small firm roller to press it on. You can either wallpaper with it or apply in critical places, but from what we've seen the noisiest part is the stamped upper beam inside the door.

    If you are not wallpapering (which we didn't) tap the fingers on metal surfaces and find the nosiest parts to apply P&S to. From what I saw "C" front doors are not bad except for beam. After application door doesn't ring like steel drum anymore, and when you shut it it gives very little noise just like the ones on luxury rides. To do 4-door car you need ~1.5 rolls of P&S.

    Wiring is pretty simple twitter is wired with x4 connector, and woofer with x2. The way it has done at the factory twitter connector works as a crossover (actually there is a small condenser wired in series with twitter to let the highs only) and 1 and 2 and also 3 and 4 are shorted for woofer pass through. 1 corresponds to 1 and 3 to 2 on woofer connector. So the signal from the head comes to twitter first on 2 and 4. All this if you look at connector with lock on the left.

    We dag a wiring color coding diagram for 2006 Celica and colors matched. Thank you Toyota for keeping it consistent. #2 is + and #4 is -, so just plug your new crossover there and run the rest per speaker instructions.

    Did not wanna ruin OEM speakers, so we had to cut adapters out of plywood to mount woofers and twitters, so it took some time.

    To keep plastic water barrier cover just cut the bitumen "glue" with sharp knife. When you done it will seal back right away.
