:D The comic strip "Zits" for 5/4/07 mentions the Prius.

We may be serious about what we drive but it is good for us to keep a lively sense of humor.

Well, Subway (sandwich) is now doing a commercial with a Prius in it. It's a somewhat humorous commercial.

Did you notice the engine noise? It didn't sound like a Prius engine to me, so I'm guessing they dubbed it in. Around here, it wouldn't be accurate to have the engine running, either; by the time you'd get to the restaurant, the engine would be all warmed up and the battery charged, so the Prius would be sippin' electrons. :)

I suspect they picked the Prius because they're associated with environmentally-concerned, trendy, health-conscious people. Subway seems to be trying to market to that demographic.

    Personally, I prefer Quiznos. B)

What's weird about both those cartoons is that the Prius is not a small vehicle, and yet that seems to be the punchline for both of them. I doubt even a Prius detractor would include 'small size' as one of their gripes.

The reality of the Prius size and what people think of the Prius size are often two different things. People often are surprised at how much will fit in the Prius and often people ask me how big it is. I usually just tell them I fit fine and I am a big guy.

Though even I am surprised sometimes how "big" the prius seems park to some other 4 door vehicles.

I agree! I have to say that MOST people I talk to think the Prius is a micro car/death trap. Get this... my Mom just bought a Corolla because she thought the Prius would be too small for her. She gets all her info from her "tennis friends" so there you go. Forget the fact that her son owns a Prius, and she's had the chance to drive in it (declined because they're so dangerous because of the silent operation... don't even get me started on the fact that we USUALLY show up at her house in an EV! - she still insists that the Prius is more dangerous since that's what she's been told by some really savvy tennis-playing retired homemakers.)

    Oooh.. Sorry. Mom rant over.

Funny, I just posted the same thing in another older thread - sounds like a V6 to me and revving enough to be pulling lazily away from a light, but too much so to be moving forward to the pick-up window. They also had an idling engine sound in the background while the couple was ordering.

It's irritating each time I come across the commercial - they probably felt the car couldn't be heard, so they had to put something more believable and conventional sounding in.

A guy a play hockey with noticed my car and asked me a bit about it. Later, we were in the locker room and he was impressed that 3 people and their gear (and I'm a goalie no less) fit into the car. It sounds like he's considering buying one. I think he's getting tired of shelling out scads of cash to drive his Yukon. There is the perception that it's a small car, though once people see one up close they realize that it's a midsize. It's always fun to tell people about the configurable seats and putting 8 foot 2x4s in and closing the hatch.

I'm pretty sure the Prius violates some law of physics; it's bigger on the inside than it is on the outside.

Lol, aren't people just funny? Especially parents! It would be interesting to hear her reaction when she sees the Prius next to the Corolla.

My parents recently decided on buying a laptop. When do they consult the family computer guy? After they purchase the computer, to see if it was a good deal.

Good to know that misinformation can still triumph firsthand experience.

Now, if only the Prius had a towing capacity! I'd actually consider trading my 4-cyl Tacoma for one. Alas, no towing capacity, no can do.

These cartoons are pretty funny. And honestly, I think they reflect the attitude of the Big 3

I tell friends that my Prius is like Dr. Who's Tardis... small on the outside but big on the inside, I can't figure out how they did that!

Hey. I'm a parent (no kids younger than 30+). My mother, who was 93 when I got my Prius, loved it. Of course, she rode in it, so knew how nice it is.

I've had the same experience. One day I parked in an area where I was completely surrounded by
compacts and sub-compacts. The Prius looked ENORMOUS in comparison.
