My carpet color in the hatchback of my 2010 Prius IV is a light beige color, yet the color of the carpet in the car is a darker grey. Is this normal?

I assume you have Misty Gray interior. Well, the hatchback carpet isn't Misty Gray but a slightly lighter shade of gray/beige and yes, Bisque and Dark Gray interiors have this same color carpet. You can verify this by going to 3rd Generation Toyota Prius Interior - 360 View (click on top view).

It's been mentioned by the Prius Team that a neutral color was chosen for the cargo area carpet color, so it will not be the same as the rest of the vehicle regardless of interior color.

My Prius has the dark grey interior but is light grey in the boot/cargo area.

Looks abit daft if you ask me.

Hello fellow SoCal'er. Is that your black Prius? I have a black Prius as well ... IV with Solar Package (SY). I was a little worried about the hatchback carpet color, but I suppose that is okay if it's like that in every Prius. However, since some of these cars are well into the $30,000 range, Toyota should rethink this strategy and make sure the hatchback matches every other part of the car.

Yes, I have Black with Misty Gray interior. It doesn't look out of place in mine because they're pretty similar in color (even some people mistake it for Misty Gray). However, going with a neutral color for the headliner/trunk/hatchback area is pretty standard. It's just more noticeable on the Prius because of the hatchback design.

I do agree!! I took delivery yesterday and my beautiful red beauty has the most incomprehensible interior combi. Like yours a very nice medium dark gray leather, floor carpet and mats with a light gray carpet and mat in the trunk area! :( Makes absolutely no sense, I selected the darker interior because I travel with a black dog all the time who was going to ride in the dark colored back area. Now I have to find some additional cover or vacuum much more regular than I had planned! It shows that I did not do my homework as intensive as I thought because otherwise I would have known this when I ordered the car 3 months ago! But it did not occur to me to check: Toyota does not deliver cars with this two-tone exterior: red with white hood for instance, so why do they not match all interior to the selected color:confused:

I got hit for the $200 premium floor mats.
My interior is misty grey.
My floor mats are dark grey.
My hatchback mat is that color that sure looks like misty grey to me, but some of you folks say is different.
Does this correspond with what others have with misty grey interiors and the premium floormats?
In case it matters, my exterior color is silver.

I have a model IV, sandy beach metallic with leather, solar roof and the works

Cost me $30,000 and I am also disappointed with the non-matching interior

Although I really like the Sandy Beach metallic color had there been an inventory of cars that I could have looked at I probably chosen a different color, simply to get matching interior colors

I paid same for these Toyota mats, the floor ones being the dark gray like the carpet, but the trunk mat being considerably lighter. Dealer told me this was normal but I think it is ridiculous. My exterior is red.

Yeah, I have dk gray interior and the back, including the the $100 mat accessory is a lighter gray color. I'd rather have all dark carpeting in the trunk to hide dirt. Oh well. At least the floor mats are black to hide the dirt.

I chose dark grey for exactly this reason. If you look at the top view, it seems to match the most.

Here are pictures of one possible solution to this carpet color problem.
I found a 3x5 dark grey indoor/outdoor type carpet at BigLots for $8. (Just the right size.) I used the light colored Prius cargo carpet as a template. With the Prius carpet facing down on top of the Biglots carpet(also facing down), I used a black felt tip pen to draw around the Prius carpet on to the new 3x5 carpet. Next, I cut the BigLots carpet on the black pattern line with a large scissors. It lays down well and it is a perfect fit. It blends well with my dark grey interior and protects that light carpet mat from stains and dirt. Most Biglots have a selection of 3x5 indoor/outdoor carpets that won't fray when cut.

Wow!!! That looks great! :) Thanks for the tip and the pictures. I am on my way to the nearest Big Lots in my brand new beauty before my dog has a chance to make a mess of her!

I did get the carpet and the end result is OK. However, a warning for anyone wanting to do the same: the wheel wells are not equal: if you use the Prius trunk mat as a guide, make sure you have right side up on both the mat and your carpet scrap. If you do not, the notches for the rings will be off center and one side will have excess carpet around the wheel in the amount the other side lacks. Corrections can be made, but you do not get the wonderful fit in the end that jlynnwatts shows in her picture.

Good point Wammo! The Hatchback carpet is not symmetrical. I noticed that also when I turned it over to allow the rubber backed side to be on top for hauling something.

I just had the same experience...misty grey interior and the floor mats are dark grey. Had I known they wouldn't match, I wouldn't have bothered to go OEM (the dealer didn't have them in-stock, so I had to wait a month to get them). I was about to call the dealer and tell them they ordered the wrong color, but am glad I checked here first.

A question for you--does the mat (especially front seats) seem to fit properly? Not knowing better, I suspect I got mats for the Gen 2 Prius based on how my new mats fit. The cut-outs don't match the floor at all, and the hooks barely made it into the holes for the driver-side mat.

My mats do seem to fit properly.
I believe that the hook/hole issue you report is one way Toyota is dealing with the floor mat comuing up under the accelerator problem. My mat barely fit over the hook, and that puppy won't come off in normal driving (unlike the mats in our 2003 Subaru Forester which WILL often slip off).
The problem is that my wife likes me to take the mats off to clean them regularly. I am morally certain that at some point when I am doing this, I will break the plastic hook because it's so hard to get the mat off. And then it will be a free floating mat, just waiting to get its front end under my gas pedal and cause an accident. You gotta watch these mats every second, or they'll get you.
