Is an Engine light warning plus almost stalling during warm up in sub zero F conditions worthy of bringing the PIP to the dealership for analysis?

Get the code read free somewhere then buy a ScanGauge or other code reader. I would expect a rough start in this cold soak, especially if the car hasn't been run long enough to get warm. I wouldn't make the trip after one occurrence.

I moved the car down to the end of the driveway. The ICE started immediately and sounded horrible. I expect the same thing on the next start. If it is happening regularly or if there is a pattern and you know the code it may be worth a trip. Otherwise, by the time it takes to get to the dealer and the time it sits in a warmer garage you'll get "can not replicate the problem" and "bring it back while it's happening".

Well, it would be interesting to see the code it threw...
But unless it happens a second time I wouldn't waste a lot of time at a dealership.

Push start, and ICE starts up due to very cold temperature, and while still using battery for propulsion during the 1st minutes of driving, ICE almost stalls

That sounds like the "rough start" scenario. It has happened to me a few times. I just wait, things warm up, and the engine settles down. It should be obvious from the noise that the engine is in no condition to provide power.

I've experienced the same symptoms in a regular car. You are correct, putting it in gear and trying to move will only cause the engine to stall. To update the old joke:

Owner: The car stalls when I do this.
    Mechanic: Then don't do it.

Or, in access to a reader is not at hand, try adding some dry gas to the tank. Drive for a couple of hours and if the "almost stalling" goes away.
If above issue is still present, then you might want to take to the dealer. This should be covered under warranty.

That's a circular definition, using the word define itself.

Basically, unless the situation ever repeats, it's probably something as simple as bad gas.

Living here in Minnesota, where at this moment it's a balmy -6°F, I would just suggest a good warm-up drive. Anything allowing the system to get toasty hot is worthwhile in the extreme cold, sometimes referred to here as Tuesday. o_O

Thanks all. No rough starts since my post. I will take Bisco's advice if it happens again.
