My Prius has shown up a warning light and the code from the computer is P3000, HV battery malfunction. However the battery seems to be working properly, the engine cutting in and out as the battery reaches full charge. However i notice that the power flow schematic on the vidio display does not show energy being transfered from the hybrid system to the battery nor the engine to the hybrid system. It does show energy flow out of the battery into the hybrid system and then into the wheels. can anyone suggest what is causing the problem?
Hi Bruce, I suggest that you download the relevant repair manual pages from techinfo.toyota.com or else the equivalent toyota-europe site, for detailed troubleshooting advice. DTC P3000 is logged by the hybrid vehicle ECU. If the battery ECU did not log any codes, this would provide evidence that there might be a communication problem between the hybrid vehicle ECU and the battery ECU. Following is a list of INF subcodes associated with DTC P3000 (per the Ecrostech miniscanner user manual): P3000 - HV Battery Malfunction123 Input of abnormal signal from battery ECU (HV Battery System Malfunction) 124 Input of abnormal signal from battery ECU (high voltage fuse blown out) 388 Discharge Inhibition Control Malfunction. When charged battery is low due to leaving the vehicle in N position, gas shortage or HV system malfunction 389 Drop of high voltage. When main battery is dead or main battery is dead due to HV system malfunction
Hi Patrick Unfortunately being in New Zealand I don't have access to techinfo.toyota.com as it only invoices to US addresses. I think the only code that came up was P3000, should the others show as well. Thanks for your help.
Hi again Patric I understand from your reply that there are two ECU's, the hybrid, which is you talk to from under the steering wheel (this is a right hand drive car), and the battery ECU. How do you talk to the battery ECU? Thanks again.

I no longer have my 2001 repair manual. This problem is thorny, so if you are not able to access the Toyota repair manual info it probably will be necessary to rely upon the Prius specialist at your dealer. Good luck.

Hi Bruce, I realize this is an old thread and you may no longer be here but this is the only place on the internet I've been able to find an exact description of what's happening to my 2006 prius. I'm just curious,what ended up being the issue? Was it the hybrid battery or something else?
Does techstream via mini vci show the subcodes to your knowledge or is it still toyota dealer only info?
any updates one the outcome of this? i just got this on my 2008 and after using dr.prius app i can see that block one of my voltage is enough below the others to trigger some malfunction... going to switch out that block and let y'all know...
Hi Priusvid, I am getting the P3000 set as an historical code on my 2007. What did you do to correct the low block? Did you have the battery recalibrated? When you said "switch out the block", did you mean swapping out the cells in the battery itself? Thanks.
ok .. checked other system called " HV BAT " ... getting P0a80 'replace hybrid bat. pack' block voltages all seem to be 16- 16.3 with the exception of 1 at 15 4 at 14.98 8 at 15.98 ( not really a concern) .: blocks 1 and 4 are an issue being 1v lower than the rest .. i beleive its 1.5 dif. between blocks that trips the unhappy triangle ..
